Way too early draft thread

I like nearly all of this, but I don’t see a TE with the second pick. Sinnott was a relatively high pick and I’ll imagine they want to see what he can do before going that route. I might expect the best DT available then, as you have to wonder whether Jon Allen comes back.

Just went BPA there. Bates, Sinnott, and Warren would be a great group. Definitely a spot where you could go in several directions. WR, S, CB, DT, EDGE….great thing with this group is I have faith in them, unlike previous regimes!

I see Jones all over the place in terms of ratings. Is he a natural tackle or in that tackle/guard mix. It seems many of the tackles in the draft are there. I like picking up a tackle in the first few rounds.

Definitely should not have a top 10 pick. I trust this staff to get us top talent still. I'd really focus on secondary, oline, and wrs. Not too worred about the draft quite yet, as a lot of football still left this year.

Re: Way too early draft thread

To me far too early for a mock, especially as we don't know where we'll be drafting. But as a starting point, what about our priorities?

For me, in order:
CB - Forbes is likely gone and BSJ (if he stays) should be #2 at best or a backup.
Edge - been a need last 3 seasons.
WR - If McCaffrey works out down the stretch I'd say he and Brown are probably keepers, but neither are a #1 or #2.
LB - I'd re-sign Wagner if he still wants to go and lock up Luvu, but we need a 3rd and maybe 4th Lb after giving up on Davis, and not knowing what we have in Magee and/or Hampton. IF Wagner re-signs I rank this below OL.
OL - Need RT (Wylie should be a back up) and I'd still look at a top LT if available as it gives us flexibility, never mind that Coleman is all but a revelation.
S - Chinn is a given, but I'm not convinced Martin can't be improved on. I'd like to see us get a real ballhawk, punishing ST type back there.

Re: Way too early draft thread

Hmmm...The Aztecs usually have some unknown talent for mid/late round picks but we are a little slim this season.

We do have a very nice running back that might fit as a back up. He is Marquez Cooper. He has 5,000 yards rushing in his career. On the small size, Cooper is extremely tough, hard runner, has burst of speed, and is very good at making people miss him on the tackle. Pretty good speed but doesn't have breakaway speed. A total team guy who's effort is 100 percent. Marques is 5-8, 200.
