Madden to NBC in 2006

Madden to NBC in 2006

I think this diminishes Madden as a commentator. He's changing jobs yet again, when I'm sure he could continue to do the Monday gig on ESPN if he wanted to. He seems even more like a hired gun, not a part of an announcing team.

It also doesn't change the real problem with his telecasts: He won't get the best game his network has to offer, just whatever game is scheduled

Why should these people act like comradarie is part of their jobs. These guys are hired guns, they don't form broadcast teams to go for their job interview. They go after the money just like we do.

That sucks I liked the Madden-Michaels team on MNF. I just hope they get a real football guy to team with Michaels. The whole Dennis Miller experiment was just dumb.

I don't look at this as a negative on Madden. He's free to pursue whatever job he wants.

Michaels may be out of the loop, anyway. This won't start until next year, when ABC won't have football. I don't know that ESPN will break up their 10 on-air team to bring in Michaels and a player to be named.

Michaels to ESPN makes sense. He's the best play by play guy in football in my opinion. Somebody will "make room" for him when he becomes available.

Well, Mike Patrick (the current ESPN play-by-play man) has had health problems, which led to his temporary replacement by Pat Summerall last year. Does any team in the league have a booth that can contain Michaels, Theismann, and McGuire?

I wish they would lose McGuire already

I did a sports radio show in college and had Mike Patrick as a guest. He was probably the nicest guy we had on at any point. He was the biggest sports guy we got and I expected him to be a typical celeb type guy but he wasn't at all. Personally I think he is about as good as Michaels so I'd rather see him stick with Theisman and McGuire. They are the best team right now anyways. Why wouldn't Michaels go to NBC to stick it out with Madden?

Michaels has a thirty-plus year history with ABC. I don't think he'd jump to NBC to stay with a guy he's worked with for two years (and who will likely retire in a few years anyway). Michaels does nearly every sport for ABC, and though we tend to think the world revolves around the NFL (it doesn't?), he may not.

If Michaels goes anywhere it would likely be to ESPN since ABC and ESPN are both owned by Disney.

I just hope they get rid of Theisman in the transfer to Monday nights. Great football player, horrible announcer.

Did you just use the phrase "hired gun" to describe a commentator?
