Rivera names Haskins the starting QB
@JPFinlayNBCS
Ron Rivera has named Dwayne Haskins the starting QB in Washington. Was a formality at this point but still big news for the 2nd year passer. Haskins has earned it. |

Re: Rivera names Haskins the starting QB
Its hard for me to word this right .... but my worry is that Haskins does too good job keeping his eyes down field when the pocket is collapsing that he hangs in there too long. I want my QB to be calm in the pocket .. but protect yourself Dwayne. We need you healthy.

For all our sanity, thank goodness, even if completely expected.

Re: Rivera names Haskins the starting QB
I'd be surprised if they score 21 PPG

Re: Rivera names Haskins the starting QB
They may surprise people. And our d line May set up the offense with better field position than we’ve seen in years. I’m cautiously optimistic. DH is going to be playing with a major chip on his shoulder. I’m cool with that.

Re: Rivera names Haskins the starting QB
If Haskins picks up where he left off last year the O has a chance to be good. It's all going to hinge on his development.

Re: Rivera names Haskins the starting QB
I think Rivera handled it perfectly : create an impression of competition as much as you can to push everybody to compete and send a message that you're not offering anything to anybody... while not creating unnecessary controversies.
Haskins will be good, my worry is will he protected...

Re: Rivera names Haskins the starting QB
Need to sign Sanu, he could provide that veteran leadership

On topic, I agree RR has handled this well, in fact he's handled the offseason very well especially with all the off field organisational shit. And I also agree that Haskins has to just be a manager this year and avoid mistakes. If the D plays as expected, we should be in with a chance in pretty much every game. Can't help thinking the final record isn't going to be the true measure, it will be the margin of loss (or victory). If we can finish within a score or so in every game then that bodes well for next year. |

Rivera names Haskins the starting QB
Haskin’s last two games in the 2019 season were a huge improvement from his first ones. BUT , this is his “show us” season to prove major progress and that he could be the future franchise QB. He needs to put up a 3-4,000 Yard season with more TDs than INT. I think he can be the ONE, if the creaky OL protects him. But if Haskins can’t establish his dominance, Rivera may move on with the 2021 draft. Rivera knows that if your team doesn’t have an elite QB, you can’t get to the top echelon in the NFL. Haskins has to largely prove himself THIS SEASON and he’ll have it all to show how good he is or isn’t. Alex Smith is just a backup QB and is NOT the future. Alex may play if Dwayne is hurt or if Haskins is playing poorly. But make no mistake, 2020 is Haskin’s season for make or break. I hope he proves himself for the future.

Re: Rivera names Haskins the starting QB
I really believe Haskins' career really kicked off in the final 5 minutes of the Detroit game (Week 12). I was there. The Skins were coming off getting obliterated by the JETS. He had not had the best game in the first 3 quarters but stayed poised and brought it at the end when it counted. He led the team down the field several times with his arm and legs. Game was tied going into the 4Q and we were down with 5 minutes to go. Long drive to tie it with a FG. Then with 32 seconds left, the D got a pick. Haskins had a big run up the middle and then a nice pass to McLaurin to put Hopkins in position for the game-winner. He looked like a leader for the first time as a Redskins there.
Skip to the end:
