Mike Barrows Return?

It looks as finaly Mike will be making his way back on the field for the up comming minicamps or aleast by training camp. There has been alot of talk about releasing him but I fell if he can get healthy there's no way we can afford to let him go. He has three years in Williams system, he is very smart, and lead the nfl in tackles in 2003 the last year he played and if healthy he should be an up-grade to Pierce. What are your thoughts on the Barrlow situation.

If he's back to 100% then we should definitely keep him and let him compete for the starting MLB job. He knows the system, and before last year he was still playing at a very high level.

Unless we're desperate for the cap room, I don't see why we should let him go, assuming he's 100% healthy again.

I definitely agree. I just never figured he'd be able to make it back. He's a force when he's healthy.

hell, i would love to have another healthy "u" player back to the team. seriously i think that he is a definitely upgrade to pierce and bigger and stronger than him also. if healthy he will probably led the league in tackles once again in this nice system. i think that we are turning into a 3-4 though. i would especially love to see it with teams like new england and pittsburgh having success. i believe that system is another way for gw to use his creative ways of attacking the opposing qb.

I'm not sure if he'd go in that direction with things working so well now. I definitely agree he would possibly be an upgrade to Pierce. If he can get the mental aspect down as well as Pierce, he might be significantly better. Good thing is, he's been on the sidelines watching the D so he knows how to work with them.

my thoughts exactly. if you saw during the games barrow and arrington was there on the sidelines studying the game. i always thought it is sometimes good if you're injured to watch from the sidelines and when you're healthy enough to play you can add some aspects to your game that you have not saw before.

Re: Mike Barrows Return?

One possibility I never thought of...

Gregg Williams said on Redskins.com: "We didn't get a chance to play Mike last year, but we know a number of things about him. He's very smart--he actually helped us coach some last year. We know mentally what he can do. Physically, it's just a matter of getting him out there."

Is it possible that Barrow was coaching Pierce on the mental calls, and that's the reason why Pierce was such a good field general? I do know Pierce is smart, have to give him credit, but it's possible that Barrow was showing him the ropes.

If we have the cap room to sign rookies and still keep Barrow, we definitely should keep him. At the very least, if his knee is still hurting, he could coach up the next MLB (Marshall, McCune, Holdman, whoever).

Re: Mike Barrows Return?

Barrow probably helped Pierce a bit, but in the end Pierce had to make the calls on the field and the split-second adjustments.

Is anyone else concerned that at 35 this guy has not run in more than a year? It's one thing to stay in shape at that age, but another to get back in to shape.

Good point, wandering bear. If he is cleared to participate in the minicamp, they'll probably take a look at his conditioning. If they think he looks out of shape and not 100% healthy, I'm sure they'll drop the axe.

Remember in 03 he lead the NFL in tackles and had to be in excellent shap to take that kind of beating. His body has had a year of rest which may help. I also think that with age comes knowledge which is a tremendes advantage at his position.

Re: Mike Barrows Return?

Barrow is a workout warrior, as long as he's healthy I wouldn't worry about him getting back into top condition.

Re: Mike Barrows Return?

The good thing is, they are more worried about him regaining strength in the leg than they are about the pain in the knee.
