RIP Chris Cornell
I'm truly saddened over his passing, one of the great frontmen of all time. Got to see him with Soundgarden back in 92 and solo last July. Very talented and a tremendous voice.

Re: RIP Chris Cornell
Agreed...truly sad to hear of this...and even more so that it was possibly a suicide. One of the all time greats!

Re: RIP Chris Cornell
Wish he had gotten help for his personal demons, my condolences to his family. The grunge era was before my time but Soundgarden/Temple of the Dog/Audioslave were all big parts of my life as I was growing up, they all got constant play on DC101 back in the day when I was a listener.
RIP to one of the greats.

You know my name is one of the best
Bond themes of all time. I guess he suffered from lifelong depression from what I heard. What a waste!!!! |

RIP Chris Cornell

The term grunge may have died off, thankfully, but bands like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, etc have all carried on quite successfully. Cornell fronted three groups in addition to his solo work. He was a prolific song writer and his voice was truly unique. He's hands down an all time great. |

Re: RIP Chris Cornell
Excellent front man and rock singer! When grunge came out, I absolutely hated it. It was a departure of the well produced, polished, heavy rock I was accustomed to listening to. I'm still not the biggest Nirvana fan, but over the years, I've grown to appreciate what bands like Soundgarden, STP, and Pearl Jam brought to the stage. Out of those bands, Soundgarden was probably the one I enjoyed listening to the most. To me, I always felt heavy rock bands should have a singer that has a loud, piercing vocals. I think that's what I hated about the other bands in the beginning. They just didn't have very interesting vocals for me.
My opinion has changed over the years though. RIP Chris Cornell. We've lost a lot of great front men in rock recently!

It seems like many people think this type of music died when Cobain shot himself. In reality this general type of rock (however you want to break it up and whatever you want to call it) is bigger now than ever. It isn't the mainstream/radio heavy thing it was before but mostly the mainstream/radio stuff now really sort of sucks. And I don't mean that in a grumpy old man/get off my lawn way. I like many types of music and even lots of new stuff. Mainstream music I find almost unlistenable in general though. |
