Offseason Focus: Defensive Line
Say what you want, but to me D-line should be the focus for the offseason. Unfortunately, McC has done a relatively poor job in this area and will have to improve in order for the entire Defense to get better.
Lets start here with an outstanding article from Keim: Redskins' defensive line must be helped by free agency, draft - Washington Redskins Blog- ESPN We must resign Baker, we must add a top notch free agent talent, and we must add a D-Lineman with 1 of our first 2 picks.

I believe SM will focus heavily on the D-line this offseason. Bringing in Tomsula to be the D-line coach is a step in the right direction, IMO. He's a pretty solid D-line coach, with or without farts.

Re: Offseason Focus: Defensive Line
I'd say this is where they should add a free agent. I heard them talking about Bennie Logan and I'd be fine with that. But regarding the draft, again...it's all about BPA. If d-line is there when we pick then fine. If they think the BPA is a guy on offense then you have to take that player. Hopefully BPA is the guy on Florida or Taco on Mich. Those guys seem to have the quick first step. Too many guys on our D-line that are slow as turtles.

Paying big bucks for a two down NG is questionable at best. There are now mock drafts that have Thomas in the top 10, so the chances of him being available appear slim. It makes more sense to sign 2nd tier FA DL and draft two or three. |

Re: Offseason Focus: Defensive Line
The money is definitely there to pay a defensive lineman. Logan would be a good investment but I see nothing wrong with splurging for Poe.
Logan played alongside Cox and has been effective. But Poe is a guy that a line has to gameplan around. Logan is formidable but can be handled without a double team as long as your C or G is good. Poe is much more of a disruptive problem. And I'd agree, we have to buy at least one expensive lineman on the free agent market. I want Scot to stick with BPA in the draft. So if he gets to round 5 and doesn't pick a lineman, yet he thinks that's how BPA is breaking, I honestly want him to stick with that. Fill the needs in free agency. I'd pay for Poe, resign Baker, and bargain hunt for another free agent. Then hopefully a lineman comes along as BPA, too.

In summary: - Re-sign Chris Baker - Sign another top-notch FA DL - Sign a lower tier FA DL (Ziggy Hood?) - Draft two DL in the first four rounds

Junior Gallete was resigned for league minimum. Low risk, high reward if he stays healthy. If he does actually stay healthy this will be a boon if we are lucky enough to get Solomon from Stanford or that kid from Alabama.

Re: Offseason Focus: Defensive Line
I am still all in on Junior Galette. Dude's going to have a big impact for us.
I'm happy to be one of the only people left to carry this banner. The Skins would be prudent not to count on great play from him, missing two seasons in a row. But I'm telling you the nature of these injuries, you can bounce right back from them like nothing happened. He's going to ball out.

Just adding 2 new starters at NT/DT, DE could help unleash these guys even more.

Agree and if the pass rush improves so does DB play.

Re: Offseason Focus: Defensive Line
Keim is spot on...we cannot over look our d-line again this year.
I'd love to get 2 through FA (counting Baker as one of them). I really believe we could afford an upgrade at ILB & FS possibly too. If all that happens, then yes, go wild on BPA in the draft. But if we sit on our hands in F/A, then we cannot ignore needed upgrades in the draft. Last edited by Bangee7; 02-01-2017 at 09:39 PM. |

And if you think the next great QB is available at that spot, you can't say no. The only thing we can say for sure is we don't need tackles.
