Redskins Moving up?

http://msn.foxsports.com/story/3556808
The Washington Redskins have already made one trade to get a first round pick and are now trying to make another move to get even higher in the opening stanza.

FOXSports.com has learned that the Redskins phoned teams in the top four on Wednesday, including the 49ers, who own the first pick, to inquire about moving up to one of the crown jewel selections of the draft. While the Redskins have not told teams who they covet, front office sources said they are trying to make a move for Michigan WR Braylon Edwards.

The Redskins have long been wheelers and dealers, so attempting to make their second move into the first round this week should come as no surprise. While Washington would like to make such a deal, they may not have enough ammunition, especially since they have already traded away their No. 1 pick in the 2006 draft.

Edwards is widely coveted as the draft's top receiver and could go as high as No. 3 to Cleveland or even No. 2 to the Dolphins. The 49ers will not select him with the first overall selection as they are still targeting Utah QB Alex Smith, even if they cannot work a pre-draft deal with Smith's agent, Tom Condon.

Re: Redskins Moving up?

I'm concerned about this. I have this feeling they will pay too much.

This is all driving me crazy. I can't wait till tomorrow.

Malcolm, we already have paid too much. Especially for the #25 pick.

I'll say this. If we take a player with #25, then I'll be upset. If this is part of a "master plan", I'll have to say that I'm more than intrigued.

Re: Redskins Moving up?

If we spend both 25 and 9 on Edwards, it would go down as one of the worst draft moves ever. The guy is good, no doubt, but NO ROOKIE is worth two firsts, a third and a fourth.
It just doesn't make sense to me. We have too many other needs to go giving up this and most of next year's draft on one guy.

Yeah, I really don't feel that happening though. I swear, if this Jason Campbell thing DOES happen, I'd ask to be traded if I were Ramsey.

Re: Redskins Moving up?

i think we will probably move the 25 and a player (Gardner, perhaps) to move up and get the rookie WR if that's the move. I really don't know what they have planned though.

I will tell you this though, that as a Redskins fan, my stock in watching on Saturday just went up about 50,000%!

Re: Redskins Moving up?

I didn't think I was going to get to watch the draft because my girlfriend conned me into going to a "luncheon" at VA Tech. I had a backup plan of having Daseal call me with each pick, but I got out of it. That's why I'M marrying this girl. She understands the plights of men.

I wouldn't worry. I said this on another post, but I really think that's all just smoke and mirrors. Campbell sucked for three years until they instituted a west coast offense last year, and he got a 14 on the wonderlic test (that's really bad for a QB). The last thing I see Gibbs wanting is to start over with a young, west coast offense QB with less than average intelligence. Just don't see it happening.

Re: Redskins Moving up?

That's what I'm thinking too. I'm just worried cause crazier things have happened. And if they are going to happen, they will happen to us. The only thing that Campbell has over Ramsey is mobility, but whoop-dee-shit. I'm stopping all this talk before it gets out of hand.

Anyway, I hope that maybe we can package up that pick with Gardner and get a few more picks to come out on top in that trade.

Very good points, I agree.

Re: Redskins Moving up?

AND because of my confidence in us winning the Super Bowl this year, Denver's pick won't be worth much.

Re: Redskins Moving up?

Well we can all agree on one thing...
The skins make the draft more interesting just about every year don't they?
I'll be stunned if we trade the 25 and 9 for Edwards but the 25 and Gardner may not be enough to get that done. Maybe we work a three way deal to move up into the 15 range by trading Gardner and the 25 then trade the 9 and the 15ish for the 4 and a 2nd rounder? Does this sound plausible?

Hhhmmmm. Now that's an interesting option I hadn't thought about. If it's an early second, I could live with that because there could still be a CB available that would be an upgrade over Walt Harris. I'll have to check one of those draft pick value charts, but I think the math may work on that. Very good thinking FRPLG.
