Draft Thought

A couple interesting scenarios pop to mind after reading this article/mock draft by Don Banks.. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...aft/index.html

1. The Cards draft Alex Smith @ 8 and we basically are in the same positon we are now and pick Pac Man or Rolle, whoever is there.
2. The Cards immediate need is greater at CB than QB so they draft Rolle or Pac Man and leave Smith on the board, who would be willing to move up for a chance at him?
3. Smith, Williams, Pac Man and Rolle are all gone by #9 (assuming Smith goes to Cleveland, Edwards to Chi, Rolle to Ten, Williams to Minn, Pac Man to Ariz), who does that leave us with and with Cedrick Benson potentially on the board, who does that leave as trade possibilities?

I doubt Dennis Green will leave Benson on the board, but if he works a deal at or before the draft for Michael Bennett (as has been rumored) then his need for a RB goes away..

Re: Draft Thought

I think AZ will actually go after Travis Henry. He wants out of Buffallo and has actually expressed interest in AZ!

Re: Draft Thought

I'm hoping we draft for need which means no QBs or RBs (I still have faith in Ramsey and Portis, and think Betts and Hasslebeck are quality depth) which would work out for us. There will defintely be at least 2 QB's and 2 RB's taken before us so if we discount those positions it will be like having the 5th pick or better! We should be able to get the #1 rated player at a position of need - either CB, DE or WR. I still think we should trade down and get either Pollock or Elton Brown, though.

Re: Draft Thought

I'd still take Clarret in the 5th we know he's not gona start but he would be a good goalline, change of pace back

Re: Draft Thought

Isn't Betts a good goal-line, change-of-pace back? I really don't want anything to do with Clarret. We have Portis and we have Betts. Clarett will look to start somewhere and get paid a huge salary. I can't really see a spot on the Skins where he would fit in.

Re: Draft Thought

how many touchdowns did betts score last year? one, how many has he scored his whole career 4, so I say no he's not a good change of pace, goalline back. Rock is better at pushing it in than betts is. In his four years of playing betts has never eclipsed the 1000 yard mark in 4 years total. I like clarett's hunger, he'll have a chip on his shoulder and something to prove. He reminds me of Stephen Davis who we drafted in later rounds in the past. If he's looking to start he'll have to first prove he can make it. Who doesn' t want big money, and a chance to start in the NFL. Thats a weak arguement, he took his college team to the national championship in his freshman year he's got major talent and will be a steal for someone, I hope its us.

Re: Draft Thought

How many touchdowns did PORTIS score last year? Not too many as I recall. We already have our all-star runningback in Portis and an above average backup in Betts. There are plenty of "bash-it-in" type of guys in the very late rounds of the draft that we can get if needed. It was definitely an offensive line problem last year.
