It’s been reported recently that atheism is on the rise worldwide, while religiosity is declining. The relationship between the religious and non-religious has always been a tricky one; while many from each group eventually find themselves forced to admit that there is much to learn from the other, atheists still generally have a tough time accepting the role that religion plays in society—and are of the opinion that humanity would be better off leaving it behind, for a number of reasons. Here are ten of them.

Been an atheist since I was 8 started doubting the existence of God when I was 6. I was raised around religious people, and basically was the first person in my close family to be out as an atheist. I stopped believing in God soon after I figured out Santa Claus didn't exist. To me they are equally as improbable, they are based on the same concept of a being doing things that science says are physically impossible.

Similar for me, Bob. I asked my parents if I could see the different religions, visit and talk to them, none of them took a little kid seriously. All the University professors did, however. That was the difference for me. That, and science is true for everyone, not open to a mysteriously self serving way to some in particular.

What's to hate? I don't hate stupid people, I just am very guarded around people who actively do stupid things and encourage others to follow suit.

Everyone believes in something. No one can endure the stress and cares of life without faith in something that cannot ultimately be proven.

Scientific method is limited to a process defined by that which is measurable and repeatable.

As opposed to a select few telling what the truth is and you had better not disagree. Science is unlimited and peer reviewed.

Some have assumed that an evolutionary explanation of life would make God unnecessary. This overlooks some problems. Even if we assume that scientists will someday find enough "missing links" to confirm that life appeared and developed gradually over great periods of time, laws of probability would still show the need for a Creator.

The fossil record and abundant other evidence testify that organisms have evolved through time. Although no one observed those transformations, the indirect evidence is clear, unambiguous and compelling. Anyone denying evolution at this point can stand in the corner with the flat earthers.

Mankind has been described as incurably religious. In unguarded moments of trouble or surprise, in prayer or in profanity, references to deity persist. Probably only described that way by theists desperate to cling onto their rapidly dwindling power.The rest of the points are too obviously written for the gullible or intellectually stunted to even waste time contradicting. If you believe anything written in that nonsense you're suffering delusion or have developmental problems that need to be handled by a professional.
