re: Redskins place franchise tag on Orakpo
I would have rather made him test the market. We have too many holes to fill.

Needs to work on a 2nd & possible 3rd pass rush move.

re: Redskins place franchise tag on Orakpo
I like Rak, but he's not worth 11 mil. I put him on the Cliff Anvril level and he's currently being paid 8mil/yr in Seattle.
Put this in perspective: 2012- Orakpo is out all but 2 games and we win the division with improved defense from mid point till end. 2013- Orakpo is in entire season and our defense ranks one of worst in NFL, and team goes 3-13.

Re: Redskins place franchise tag on Orakpo
SO Rak is a bad luck charm?
Way to many factors that are the difference between the W/L record of 2012 and 2013. 2012 the offense led the team. Defense was still bad. RG III was incredible in unleashing the R/O on the NFL and Fletch was stellar in the second half of the year. 2013 all three phases of the Redskins game were flawed. This past year it was a mess all around, Fletch showed his age. The young guys in the secondary played that way. Wilson was AWFUL. Rak, Kerrigan, and DHall were the lone bright spots on a terribe defense. So comparing 2012 - 2013 isn't even closing to comparing apples to apples with Rak being the only difference in the two.

Re: Redskins place franchise tag on Orakpo
I'm OK with the $11.5M cap number. It's not ideal, but hopefully this is a means to an end when it comes to getting him to sign a longer term deal which will reduce the cap number.
Still, elite pass rushers are impossible to find. And yes, 10 sacks is elite when you're a 3-4 OLB and not rushing every down.

How others rank Brian Orakpo - Washington Redskins Blog - ESPN
Just in case anyone isn't sure how other teams would view Orakpo. I don't have any doubts if we hadn't tagged him there sure as hell would have been another team out there willing to pay him what he wanted. |

Has anyone ever franchised a guy and then traded him?

I'm glad we've brought him back. Now, get a long term deal done and resign Riley. |

Re: Redskins place franchise tag on Orakpo
If we're resigning Riley, it better be on the cheap. That same article discussing how others view Orakpo shows how Riley is practically viewed as a nobody. He's not bad but I don't think anybody will pay him more than D Hall or Chris Baker money.
