More draft thoughts.....

With the 9th pick in the draft it seems like we are headed towards defense. I believe if Antrel Rolle is still available here we should definatly take him. However, if he is gone and even if Pac Man is still available I think we should trade to the mid-first round, pick up a second rounder and draft Carlos Rodgers with our first round pick. Rolle will most likely be the best corner out of the three, but I am not sold on Pac Man. Jones is fast, and a good tackler but he takes alot of risks. Rodgers was kind of getting slept on until the combine. He has good size (6-0 3/8, 196), he is fast ( nfl.com reports times at 4.44 but he had also been clocked in the 4.31-4.35 range), and he was named the top CB in the country this year over Rolle, Jones, or anyone else for that matter. Also, Rodgers proved to be a shut down CB for Auburn who faces some of the best passing attacks in college football, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, even LSU and Arkansas. Rolle also played great against big time teams, but who did Jones play this season??? The Big East is WEAK, UWV didn't play many strong passing teams except UCONN, Pitt, FSU, and you can even throw in BC and VAtech. The only teams UWV beat out of them was UCONN. Rodgers is proven and a leader. If anyone thought Auburn would go undefeated and have a defense that good after losing Karlos Dansby, Doneterrius Thomas, and Reggie Torbor they are lying. Rodgers stepped up and was the leader of that team on the defensive size of the ball. Also, by trading down to the mid-first we can pick up a second or third rounder. By the looks of things it seems Courtney Brown is going to sign with the Broncos. Although this really pisses me off, I think we could draft Jovan Haye from Vandy, a very solid DE in the second or third round to fill that need.

Re: More draft thoughts.....

i absolutely agree with you. rogers is bigger and more physical than jones. netting out a second rounder for the downtrade would allow the skins to select someone like thorp, gibson, or perhaps even williamson or clayton if they slide into the second round.
also, if not a wideout, perhaps smith, the tight end out of stanford or one of the def ends such as tuck or roth would be great in the second round. we could net out 2 solid starter by this means and it would give great flexibility
the only problem is that rogers is rising and might not be there around 15-17....

I think if we trade with or before the Chiefs we will be able to get him. They will go after a CB and if we can give them 9 with Pac Man there I am sure they would do it.

I think that would be the way to go with Rogers then get a WR in the 2nd round! Maybe a DE if there is something good left!

I'm starting to look at the draft as a definite win-win for us. As long as no one does any stupid picking (QB or RB) I think that we are solid are almost every position and ANY pick will be great for us. And if they turn out to be a bust, then we have a solid backup at almost every position.

Don't forget though, by trading down to the middle of the first round, you expose one more of the top cornerbacks available to Dallas -- and they are in pretty desperate need for help in the secondary, too. Rolle could go to the Titans, with the next best guy (Jones, or Rogers) going to the Cowchips.

Re: More draft thoughts.....

sounds good to me this rogers guy, but i have to say again that for the offense to kick it into gear the line must be be squared away. that was the number 1 problemo
last year. the line was never set. my point is that i am trying to make is that i am not completely sold on dockery. he has the size but he too much time being blown into the backfield last year, and a man that big should not have that happen. elton brand
form uva is supposed to be all that and a bag of chips. if have the line we can do anything

Re: More draft thoughts.....

i want rogers at nine. trading down at 9 isnt gonna happen, to much parity in positions.

and why do so many peeps think if we do, we are gonna get a 2nd rounder?? the latest i would go is 15th in the first round, because all three top CB's should be gone. rolle rogers and pac man. titans, cardinals, skins, cowboys and chiefs are definite maybies. that leaves five teams looking at three corners. i'd prefer to help out ramsey with a bigger target at wr and go with cb dyson in FA anyway. after thinking about it, i dont want ramsey having a excuse this season, and fullfilling a bigger target (not mccants) that has height AND WEIGHT will help him out dramaticly in short yardage and goaline situations... to keep teams really guessing with portis in the backfield and that bigger wr and cooley on the field.

You are saying if Smith of Utah was sitting when the 9th spot came up you woundn't take him? He is going to be great and that would be the steal of this draft! I know we have other needs but that would be to good to pass up but it will never happen!
