The re-sign Orakpo thread
I say we pay him a little more than the next best offer, if that kind of thing can be negotiated. He's been through hell here with two terrible HCs and one terrible DC. He's been consistent with about 10 sacks a season and is playing lights out right now, which you can read two ways. On the one hand you could say Rak is playing for a contract right now and why didn't he give this effort all along? On the other hand you can say we're seeing his best right now, and if we make the right coaching hires after this season, Rak will keep playing to his potential.
And how many great players have we let get away to regret it? What sayeth the mob?

Re: The re-sign Orakpo thread
I am a Rak believer. We have enough holes, no need to create another. Of course if he gets some ridiculous offer well above his real value I think it would be best to pass...but I mean WELL above value.

Re: The re-sign Orakpo thread
If Kerrigan or rob Jackson stepped up this year, I wouldn't mind letting him walk.
They didnt so orakpo resigning is almost necessary. He will get paid like a top 5 pass rusher, he doesn't play like it but that will probably end being his price tag. |

Re: The re-sign Orakpo thread
First question, are we gonna stay 3-4 or 4-3? I think his value is 3-4 OLB now. I hesitate a little if we go 4-3.

Re: The re-sign Orakpo thread
I don't think we will go back to a 4-3, and to be honest I don't want us to.

Re: The re-sign Orakpo thread
nor do i, I like the 3-4 and with 3 of our best players (Orakpo, Kerrigan, Coefield) on that defense seem to be better fits with in the 3-4 scheme, you dont change it. You need better coaching at LB and a natural 3-4 DC.

4-3 please.
Resign Rak before he can test market. If he walks and Haslet stays.... |

Re: The re-sign Orakpo thread
I don't think we'll do better than Rak. Might as well hold onto him. He's an above average, albeit not elite LB. Above average is good enough for me.

Re: The re-sign Orakpo thread
Rak is a high priority IMO. On a D that lacks playmakers we can't let one get away. Too many holes to fill as it is. As long as the contract makes sense which I'm sure it will with Allen, get it done asap.

With our 33 pick or 34 whatever it'll be , I'd seriously look into LB , I know we need a RT but still

Re: The re-sign Orakpo thread
He needs to be signed long term. Orakpo is arguably the best player on the defense, and obviously the most naturally gifted with remaining upside potential. Since he added the inside move to his pass rush arsenal several weeks ago, he's been a menace.
I'd prefer they didn't break the bank, but give him whatever his market value is. God forbid we keep some home grown talent around here. |

Re: The re-sign Orakpo thread
I don't think Orakpo is going to sign a deal with us prior to testing the market. One of the announcers said this past Sunday they talked to Orakpo and he was excited about hitting free agency in his prime. That might also explain his performance the past couple of weeks. Up until week 10 he only had 3 sacks. Not sure how to read into that. I'd like to see us sign him but I just have a feeling he will not be on the team next year.

Re: The re-sign Orakpo thread
Resign him, I'm tired of seeing 1st round picks like Rogers and Landry leave and getting nothing in return.
