It's a good time to get a new HC

I think we can all agree that this season is one of the worst in the history of the franchise.
There aren't many positives from this season but one positive is the cap penalty prevented us from bringing on horrible free agent contracts.

If Shanahan were to stay another year, we undoubtedly would sign a bunch of Shanahan guys and be stuck with them for the next 4 to 6 years or take a huge cap hit.

The roster has about 10 older guys making a lot of money we can cut and not take a major cap hit.

I hope the new staff realizes that it's time to get younger and that a 30+ year old player like Fletcher or Carriker aren't going to be able to help us down the road, we need to develop young talent.

Here is a short list of players I feel could be cut and their base salary:
Morgan 9Mil
Fletcher 5.5mil
Carriker 4.7Mil
Bowen 4.4Mil
Chester 3Mil
Montgomery 3Mil
Cofield 4.5Mil
Meriweather 3Mil

The majority of these guys will be gone but I don't know how realistic it is to replace both guards and 3 on the DLine.
Unfortunately we are missing what will probably be the first pick in next years draft but at least we have the finances to bring on guys the new HC wants.

With that said, that doesn't mean there will be good players available but anything has to be better than what we have now right?

Re: It's a good time to get a new HC

I feel like we kinda need Cofield and Bowen, as we don't have any better options at DT and at the end position. As much as I love Chris Neild, I don't think he's starting caliber, it'd leave us either trying to sign a FA 3-4 DT (assuming we don't switch back to the 4-3) or drafting one. Golston and Jarvis Jenkins have practically been invisible, so much so that I forget they're on the team sometimes.

Morgan has been riding the pine. Bye.
Fletch is done anyway. Bye.
After repeated knee surgeries over a 2-3 year period, I'm not sure if Carriker should really be playing anyway.
Chester was garbage this year. Bye.
I think we should probably hold onto Monty.
Meriweather can't stay healthy OR play smart. Bye.

Why isn't Polumbus on here? He's supposed to be getting $1 million next year. DEFINITELY BYE.

Tyler Polumbus should be the first one cut from the offensive line. He his horrible. Followed by everybody else not named Trent Williams.

I don't think $1Mil for a backup right tackle is a bad thing. Tackles are much harder to get than guards.

I don't even want him as a backup. I know we didn't have a better option this year but that guy is offensive line poison. Use a dummy, or.. a rottweiler, or... I dunno a woolly mammoth or some shit.

Get Polumbus far far away from the Redskins uniform. And he can take Fred Davis ass with him.

I believe they probably will find a settlement with Bowen. It's not because he is that bad, it's just the injury and his age after recovery.

I vote for a rottweiler.

I agree with this. Just because he's a terrible starter doesn't mean we should cut him. However, if we want RG3 to have a long career, guys like Polumbus need to be relegated to backup duty, and we need to start bringing in some hog-mauleys like Cyril Richardson. No more 6-2, 284 pound linemen like Lichtensteiger.

You said everything I was thinking, except that I think it's too early to give up on Jarvis Jenkins and I actually saw some hustle out of him the last few games. I think he might have a mean streak too.

He would tell you, but coach said he couldn't talk. Coach said he couldn't play football and couldn't talk.
