Sean Taylor wants to redo his deal already...
He signed a 7 year deal just nine months ago and now his new agent - is this his third agent or his fourth? - has talked with the Skins about a new contract. The team is not allowed yo redo a rookie deal for one year after it was signed, so this story could roll on through the middle of training camp. But that won't be a distraction.
What I would love to know from the "hardline tough-guys" here on The Warpathy is this: If Taylor is disgruntled with his contract and something is NOT worked out and he asks to be released/traded, should the Skins: a. Threaten to suspend him and make him watch the games on a 12-inch screen black-and-white TV? b. Wait until after the March 1 "witching hour" and then trade him for another safety in the league whose contract is expiring and wants a humongous deal? c. Send out stories to the press about how he was not all that well liked in the locker room? d. Find a way to block any calls from Champ Bailey to his cell phone? Stand by folks, this story has only just begun...

Re: Sean Taylor wants to redo his deal already...
From the Post 3/21:
"According to sources, agent Drew Rosenhaus has held discussions with the Redskins about safety Sean Taylor's desire for a new contract. Taylor fired his previous agents last summer because of displeasure with his rookie contract: a seven-year, $18 million deal, which included a roughly $11 million bonus. With incentives, the contract is worth up to $40 million. But NFL rules prevent a rookie's contract from being reworked for a year. In Taylor's case, nothing can be announced until Aug. 1. Rosenhaus declined to comment. . . . " Im not sure how I feel about this, but I get the feeling that he just realizes that his agent sucked and that he got a bad deal compared to others drafted around him. I doubt a new deal gets worked out, and I dont think that Rosenhaus will let it become a distraction/holdout situation. I mean, its not like we're dealing with the Postons here! |

I also don't know how I feel about this. He's one of the best safeties (and will become the best) in the league. I would say that he warrants the type of cash of the better safeties in the league. I don't know those numbers however.

Re: Sean Taylor wants to redo his deal already...
This doesn't come as a surprise at all.
7 years, $18M?? C'mon, the guy got raked over the coals. He was the #5 overall pick, sure with incentives the deal looks alot better, but players just aren't interested in incentives. They want guaranteed money, as much of it as possible. Sure some of it is his fault, he signed a crappy deal, but that's what you hire agents for. I really can't believe he didn't go with Rosenhaus in the first place, he's like the official Miami agent. Rosenhaus and Snyder are on pretty good terms, I won't be suprised to see them work something out in the summer. |

I love "according to sources." In my business, I like to know the asshole that gives me bad news, otherwise I dont believe it. Where is the source? Somebody's cousin that knows somebody that overheard something in their dentist's reception area? Come on, give me something.

This isn't a suprise, we heard this right after his deal was signed. They'll work it out.

Re: Sean Taylor wants to redo his deal already...
I think he really did not get the best deal and has proved he is going to earn his money. Maybe the front office can turn some of his "incentives" into a contract he is happy with.
I don't want this kid chomping at the bit to leave ASAP.

Re: Sean Taylor wants to redo his deal already...
If that is the case with Taylor then let him watch from the bench. He is playng out of position in the pros anyway. Should be a OLB-even then he could watch from the bench if he don't like the contract

Re: Sean Taylor wants to redo his deal already...
That's a good plan, John. Let's disgruntle arguably our best player, move him to a foreign position which were loaded at, then bench him because he got shafted on his deal. Good plan! How do you not land a GM job somewhere?

Re: Sean Taylor wants to redo his deal already...
Sheesh, here I am wondering if we will have enough money to get our draft picks signed and Taylor wants to re-do his deal........I can't believe this............... Thanks for the "help" Sean...............
