One last thing about Coles...
In case this hasn't already been posted, I got this over at Tandler's Redskins Blog:
"Coles' main complaint about Gibbs was the coach's inflexible nature. "I didn't feel respected as a player," Coles said. "I know everything changed [when Gibbs succeeded Spurrier] but when you feel like you're one of the best players at your position, you'd think you could talk to a coach about the play-calling. We didn't have that situation. He called the plays. We ran them. That's where things fell off with me. I realize it's a dictatorship but there's only so much you can take." http://redskinsblog.blogspot.com/

Re: One last thing about Coles...
Exactly the kind of attitude that will infect whatever team he is on like ebola. Good riddance you craptastic jerk. Too bad your attitude is going to doom your career in spite of the fact that you have loads of talent. Every team he has been on in the last 7 years has booted his ass out the door. That's telling when you consider it. I mean he couldn't stay on at FSU where they only thing that gets you off the team is murder. Warrick even was given the benefit of the doubt and allowed back. Not Coles though. Then he was ushered out the door unceremoniously in NY the first time with some nice comments from Herm Edwards who wouldn't say a bad thing about Hitler. The question is though...why did they take him back?

Coaches should take input from their players, all the great coaches do. This is where Coles was upset I'm guessing.

Re: One last thing about Coles...
First of all, kudos to FRPLG for correct use of the word "craptastic".
Evidence of the need for Coles' departure aren't going to convince those who think we handled his exit poorly otherwise. There are very few left who think Coles should have stayed, and you are never going to win over the "tinfoil hat" crowd. My favorite argument that bashes the path we took is the one that says we should have kept Coles, and made him inactive until he saw the light. The same people angrily denounce Snyder for threatening to do just that, proving that Snyder can do no right.

Re: One last thing about Coles...
I do think we could have handled it better. I think releasing him and getting 5 mil in cap room would have been better than getting Moss. I think they maybe got caught up in a pissing match and outsmarted themselves. Apparently they think more of Moss than most people and I can only hope they are clairvoyant in the regard.
That's gotta be the first time ANYONE has used both craptastic and clairvoyant in a thread in the history of the board. |

Re: One last thing about Coles...
Brud - There are many reports of Coles saying he thought he had it worked out with Gibbs when Snyder called him and he knew he was past the point of no return. He also said if he stayed he'd play hard. It's how he is, he's a worker and would have played well for us.

Re: One last thing about Coles...
Daseal-
I don't think he would say, "If they kept me, I'd have dogged it up and down the field, and intentionally fumbled when given the chance." I don't doubt Coles would have worked hard, but he vocally did not want to be here. That is not a good situation for a team trying to rebuild and install a new system. I wish we had gotten more for Coles, and paid less to do it. I'm just not going to begrudge the result.
