The REAL deciding Factors...
I have read for a while now our multiple discussions with WRs and CBs. I am not sure that's the key. I look at the two teams in the superbowl this year. As CB's each team had basically rookies, for WR the pats had quite a few "B" players, and the losing team went out and got a superstar. I am not sold in the idea that those two positions are critical to the success of a team.
However from analyzing the Pats and Eagles it seems to come down primarily to a few things: 1. Excellent QB play 2. Stability of Coaching Staff 2a. Excellent OL play 3. Scoring Defense With Jansen's return and the addition of Rabach {sp}, it looks to be a much better year. We actually have depth now. Gibbs is Sticking around. This is VERY important because the players don't have to keep learning schemes. The Eagles and Pats were 2 and 3 in the league in scoring defense, skins were 5th. MOST (not all) of the teams in the playoffs had very good play at the QB position throughout the season. So it comes down to Ramsey. I don't expect Brady or Donavan performance, but if he can be in the top 15 in the league, we have a very good shot at the playoffs. my 2 cents.

I would also add Low Amount of Penalties/Penalty Yards
The Redskins were in the bottom three in penalties and penalty yards assessed on offense. Granted, some were ridiculously questionable pass interference calls, still as a team they need to drastically cut back on mistakes like holding, late hits, false starts, etc.

Re: The REAL deciding Factors...
I think we've got a great QB, who is capable of being one of the greats, he just never developed good habits until the end of this year. At tulane and under spurrier he was tought to just heave the ball and stretch the field, so Gibbs has had to do some reprogramming and cut down on the TOs, which he did dramatically. Ramsey is smarter than he looks and can throw bombs all day, Gibbs and Musgrave just have to keep developing him along to make the decisions that dont give the game away by concentrating on ball control.

Re: The REAL deciding Factors...
next year, we will go only as far as ramsey is able to take us... gibbs has set the table by improving the o line and receivers. it is up to ramsey to prove he is worthy of being an nfl starter finally.
first and foremost, he cannot lose games. second, there will be occaissions when he has to get it done with game winning drives at the end. gibbs has demonstrated an ability to get his teams into the post season with less than probowl qb'ing, but there is still a minimum level of excellence that is needed |

Re: The REAL deciding Factors...
Excellent post, Lifetimeskin! I couldn't agree more. Part of the deal with coaching stability with us is also Gibbs getting his groove back. I'm optimisitc. Ramsey is very much the key, though.
Also, welcome to the board, canthetuna! Great name.

Re: The REAL deciding Factors...
Most of Ramsey INTs were in his first two relief spots like the first Giants game where he was put into the game unprepared . I thought he played welll down he stretech .
The biggest issue was when we did win we had very few penalties. |

IF any of you watched George Michael's "Full Court Press" last night then you heard that even Steve Spurrier told Michael that Ramsey isn't going to make it in this league. Very damning, forboding, honest comments from someone who knows Quarterbacks. |

I'm not ready to give up on Ramsey because of this statement. Spurrier's QB's have had almost no success on the professional level, so until that happens, I'll give that opinion the weight it deserves.
