Which NFC East coach has the most to prove

I am flat out stealing this from a commenter on the ESPN article,Do it again? Redskins can't wait to try - NFC East Blog - ESPN

Quote:

What coach has the most to prove this season?

Coughlin: Can he take the Giants back to the playoffs?
Shanahan: Can he keep his QB healthy for an entire season, and will they repeat?
Chip Kelly: Will his offense and philosophy succeed in the NFL?
Garrett: Will managing less of the playcalling make him a better coach?

But I think it's a worthy question, and laid out well. Personally, I think Garrett's on the same hotseat Wade Phillips was on when his team gave up on him. I don't think the cowboys will give up early, but if they start 2-4 or worse, the team may spiral out of JG's handle. And no talk of process will cut it when you have been in his shoes.

Cowboys start worst than .500 through the first 10 games, probably over for Garrett.

I agree, another year of missing the playoffs and he's probably toast.

Kelly gets somewhat of a pass as a rookie HC.

Coughlin has two recent SB wins, nuff said.

Shanahan is coming off a div title and also has 2 SB wins under his belt.

Yeah, Garrett has done nothing since taking over for Dough Boy. He has the most to prove because his seat is the hottest.

I think its Kelly all the way. Is he the second coming of Steve Spurrier with a new fangled college offense, or is he the real deal?

Shanahan and Coughlin have nothing to prove, and Garrett has Jerry Jones making all the decisions anyway, so any failures or successes will or should be put on Jones. I think Garrett is a puppet head coach anyway.

I look at it this way... Who would be more likely to get fired if their team went 5-11 this year, Garrett or Kelly?

Re: Which NFC East coach has the most to prove

With Garrett losing his playcalling ability, I went with Chip Kelly. I don't believe Garrett doing great or terrible will impact his eventual fate much either way. I expect the big questions to be over how Kelly handles Vick vs Foles. How that uptempo offense works. Can he keep McCoy happy? Most importantly, will he be able to run his offense without exhausting his defense?

As far as hot seat, really the only answer is Jason Garrett. But most to prove, to me, is not necessarily the same question

I don't agree tht Shanhan has nothing to prove. Coughlin doesn't since he's won multiple Super Bowls with the Giants in the last several years. But Shanahan hasn't done a whole lot here in Washington yet. He had a successful season last year, but he has to show that it wasn't a fluke. If we miss the playoffs this year, Shanhan won't be fired, but it's not gong to be like in NY, where Giants fans know Coughlin can get them back in the playoffs the following year. Shanahan needs to prove that he has turned this team around and that the Redskins can sustain consistent success with him at the helm. And I believe he will.

Kelly has the most to prove, but Garrett, while having very little to prove, has the most to survive for.

Re: Which NFC East coach has the most to prove

How crazy is it that someone holding the opinion of Shanahan being a terrible hire and Garrett being a great one could have been justified by just one Week 17 game? That's nuts.

Re: Which NFC East coach has the most to prove

I have them in order.

Garett's last chance.
Kelly has at least two years to make his case.
Shanahan said 5 yrs and even if he had a bad yr he still would be back next.
Coughlin the guys has 2 SB its his decision for a few yrs
