Smoots Gone, What do we draft?

Hey Guys, I am watching NFL Total Access and this is this first that Ive heard that Smoot is gone and signing with the Vikings. So now My question is do we still draft a WR, or shift focus to a CB?

...didn't think Smoot would do it. Especially for only $ .8 million more...

Re: Smoots Gone, What do we draft?

Can't believe he's gone. I loved yelling SSSSSMMMMMMOOOOOOOOTTTTT in the bar whenever he made a great play!!! So much for my Smoot jersey too!!
Don't know what they'll go for in the draft now. Garnell Wilds played great at the end of the season so he may take Smoots place. We're bringing in some new wideouts too but we really need some improvement on the O-line!!!
Damn Pierce and Smoot both gone, that sucks!!!!

We dont have the money to pay Ty Law, nor does he have the upside for a huge contract. We will either draft a corner or just go with what we have.

Re: Smoots Gone, What do we draft?

The only good thing is that it is over, and we don't have to wait around anymore. I can't believe we didnt pay more to get him, but I guess this will allow us more cap freedom in the future.

I would really like to see the team add Andre Dyson. I think he is the type of guy who could replace Smoot fairly effectively, and do it at a cheaper price. I would like to see Harris remain at the nickel if at all possible.

I think this makes us much less likely to trade up in the draft. We don't really have that one pressing need (WR) anymore. We will probably sit at 9 and select the best player at either WR or CB who falls to us. It just makes me so angry that we made that Coles trade, we went about in very much the wrong way and it now may cost us in a big way. We desperately need a WR, but now we may not do what it takes to get one. Regardless of what that poll on the front page says, our WR corps is MUCH worse now than it was last year. Moss is worse than Coles and Patten is worse than Gardner. The fact that Gardner and Coles are both assholes who don't want to play for the Skins doesn't change the fact they are a very decent and very good WR respectively. We need a WR more desperately now than we ever did, and yet at this point I would be willing to bet that we settle for a CB like Rolle if it looks like Williams won't fall.

In other words, we are f*cked, big-time.

We still need a WR more than a corner. Patton & Moss as starters...are you kidding me?

Re: Smoots Gone, What do we draft?

Not that it really matters, but the Redskins have a much better track record at picking CB's in the first round than WR's...but who knows? I think they'll pick the best player available out of those two positions, or trade down to get both before the 3rd round. Hell, I don't know......As much as I thought re-signing Pierce was more important, Smoot just seemed like a Redskin for life....this sucks....

Re: Smoots Gone, What do we draft?

Sorry, but all this doom and gloom over Coles, Pierce and Smoot is simply keveching about spilled milk.

You know what? We are going to be fine. How fine? dunno. But none of the subtractions will hurt us in the long run.

Pierce? Good player, sorry to see him go. He played MLB, a position that simply is not generally thought of (unless your a Skins fan) as a big money position. He can be adequately replaced.

Coles? Hard worker, kept his trap shut but wanted out. Glad to oblige. Cap hit? Yup. but I have always favored the "pay now rather than later" when it comes to cap hits. Take it like a man and move on - Makes the 2006 cap situation that much easier. Again, Coles was not gonna be the difference between the playoffs and staying home.

Smoot? You wanted to be here, but you left for ~800K more than we had on the table? Your a good solid corner and will be fine w/ Winfield in Minnesota. But if your willing to leave a defense that made you look good and fans who adored you for just a little extra cash, hasta la vista baby - don't let the door hit you on the way out.

All of these players were good solid players. None were superstars or essential cogs and all are replaceable. The coaching staff believes they have the depth to have people step up. We'll see.

Who knows, maybe by not "winning" the offseason we have actually increased our chances of winning games.

Apparently they offered a lot more salary in the first 3 years than us. Probably made the difference.
