Defensive Tackle

I see us signing a DT in the next few days. Griffin was a great pickup but we need someone to play next to him. Last year we just rotated in a bunch of guys in that spot. Im not big on Noble, hes a hard worker but id like a little more presence there to take the pressure off of Griffin.

What about Hovan from the Vikings. I dont think hes been cut yet but he will, espeicially with them signing Pat Williams.

What do you guys think? Anyone else out there in FA that could be an upgrade, or do you want to stay with our rotation?

Re: Defensive Tackle

I think we'll stay with what we've got.

Salave'a was a pleasant surprise and Noble should be stronger a year removed from his injury. Neither are spectacular but they're both high effort guys who can be very effective in a rotation.

Re: Defensive Tackle

Hovan is a waste of a roster spot even for the league minimum.

Re: Defensive Tackle

Hovan played himself into the doghouse in Minny. I'd pass.

Re: Defensive Tackle

Salave'a is a good run stopper. Griffin is good all around. Wynn is good against the run. We just need to get some pressure from the ends.

I think we should sign DT Chris Hovan if we can, I also want to know if these rumors of Rolle are true.

Re: Defensive Tackle

noble and salavea is a great tandom. we need a end with a high ass motor and runs a 4.6 or 4.7 (preferably tuck or pollack) IMO tuck is more of a run stopper and i think will suit us better.

Re: Defensive Tackle

I agree noble and salave'a are great in the rotation. We can't have a star at EVERY position!

Re: Defensive Tackle

Criss Clemons was comming along nicley in pass rushing situations. I always worry about drafting DE, DT, and WR in particular they are always a huge gamble in the first round .

DEs are always the biggest gamble... it takes most 3 years to figure out if they're any good...

Re: Defensive Tackle

With the losses of Smoot and Pierce of defense, I am not convinced that we can settle with the guys we've got on defense. I think Walt Harris is a decent replacement for Smoot, but he's aging and quite simply, not Smoot. Pierce was the quarterback of the defense and I'm concerned about Marshall's ability to pick up where Pierce left off.

Though I have faith in Williams, I still believe we need at least one more good starter on defense to make up for the losses of two Pro-Bowl caliber defenders.

I agree, Gibbs has continued to state he plans to upgrade the dline, and he's been keeping snyder on a lease so far so we may get Hovan because it will be just the move that will satisfy snyder's need to splurge. I would rather like to see us adrress this issue in the draft in another post I stated that we should draft Larry Burt out of Miami of Ohio. He's a huge run stuffer (6'4 299) and would fall into the rotation nicely.

Re: Defensive Tackle

Salave'a and Noble are fine rotating next to Griffin. I agree that if we draft/pick up anyone for anything more than depth on the D-line, it should be a quick DE.
