The Patriots making mistakes?
What do you guys think. While looking through the stattracker that was posted I saw the patriots. They have so far cut/lost 8 players, and many were great starters for them!
G Joe Andruzzi (FA, CLE) WR Troy Brown (cut) G Wilbert Brown (cut) TE Zeron Flemister (cut) CB Ty Law (cut) CB Earthwind Moreland (cut) LB Roman Phifer (cut) DL Buck Rasmussen (cut) Law, Brown, Phifer, and Andruzzi are the big names. So do you think they've made a mistake letting so many go? Personally I think it could come bite them. Who knows. |

Yeah - Weiss/Crennell spells bad things in my opinion.

Re: The Patriots making mistakes?
Troy Brown is a media hero because he played both ways - and some on special teams too - for much of last season.
Fact is that he was the #4 wide receiver and the nickel/dime back and at season's end he returned about one punt per game. Translation: he was a sub on defense and a sub on offense and a sub on special teams. HIs versatility is amazing in this day of specialization, but he was a stop-gap everywhere, If the Pats kept him, he would cost $5M in real money and $5M in salary cap room. That's a lot to pay a guy who is a stop-gap. Andruzzi may have been a mistake; he is a better than average OL and breaking up OL units can be a bad idea. Ty Law was a great CB but he broke a bone in his foot and would have been a "$10M-man". That's a big gamble! It could pay off huge for someone if he recovers completely and resumes his place as one of the top 3 CBs in all of the NFL. Or ... he could be just an average CB hauling down some huge coin and sucking your cap dry. Interesting call here... Moreland is a journeyman at best. Flemister has been through Washington and is a waiver wire special.

What about Phifer, SC. A starting, very solid linebacker.

Who in their right mind would let go of Flemister?

Re: The Patriots making mistakes?
I just posted the whole list. Only a few of them were starters, but some are very good. Andruzzi, law, Phifer, Brown (debatable)

Re: The Patriots making mistakes?
Odds are Brown will be back with NE. He said he wants to test the FA pool, but odds are that he will be back in NE. And out of all those cuts the only that hurts is Andruzzi. They will get someone to fill in.

Re: The Patriots making mistakes?
Ha. Nice one. I'm getting to where I don't care anymore. I just wish we could retain MOST of our players (which it seems we are doing) and addressing our glaring needs. I'm sick of being concerned about players whos only concerns are loyalty to themselves.

Re: The Patriots making mistakes?
Losing Law isn't a big deal because he was a huge cap number and they just traded for Duane Starks and he will do just fine.
