Re: Protecting RG3's Great Expectations
I think Shanny and co. have gone about things the right way so far, from limiting his media time to crafting the offense to fit his skill set.

Re: Protecting RG3's Great Expectations
I agree completely. I think they have done everything in their power to minimize distractions and make him comfortable as he transitions out of the Baylor system and into the Shanahan system.

Re: Protecting RG3's Great Expectations
Definitely, even as far as limiting his exposure to the media. That can have a huge effect on a rookie. All the badgering and questions can either make his head big, or his eyes. Neither are something that we need right now.

Re: Protecting RG3's Great Expectations
Absolutely. Even though he's probably already one of the more level-headed players, it's still unexplored territory. Too much of ANYTHING is bad

Re: Protecting RG3's Great Expectations
In the years I've been a fan, I don't think we've ever seen a rookie carry as much weight on his shoulders as RG3 has. What they are doing right now is smart, and I agree with it, because he's got a hell of a lot of hype to live up to. This might end up being Mike Shanny's career defining moment, even moreso than his two SB wins.

Re: Protecting RG3's Great Expectations
RG3 already has enough pressure on him. Limiting his press time will help somewhat in removing some of that pressure.

Re: Protecting RG3's Great Expectations
RGIII seems from all evidence to revel in the media so far.
I'm sure that will change and be a real test of his character should he have a few-game slide at some point but I think he's a solid kid and up to the task. He's the real deal. |

Re: Protecting RG3's Great Expectations
It's a little late now. Would have been a little late as far back as the draft.
“I love talking to you guys,” Griffin said. “It’s great every single time, but that’s Coach Mike’s decision. He wants me to talk to you guys once a week, so I’m talking to you guys once a week. The biggest thing is that I’m the quarterback and I’m the face of the team, the face of the franchise. I think we all understand that. The guys understand that if I’m getting all the attention, we’re doing extremely well on the field.” Please don't start to get cocky, RGIII. You aren't the face of the franchise yet, though we hope you will be. |

Re: Protecting RG3's Great Expectations
I'm impressed with how the team is getting RGIII prepared for the season. I think Cooley summed it up nicely in his interview on NFLam.

Loved that interview with Cooley. I really hope he rebounds this year.

Re: Protecting RG3's Great Expectations
I don't know if shielding him from the media makes a difference unless Griffin said something perceived as controversial that whoops up the media and becomes a distraction.
...but seriously, who likes dealing w/ the media anyway lol? I'd find every excuse in the book to limit being hounded.
