This positive change has been a long time coming.

But it won't solve all problems. Arguments about which deserving team was not selected to be in the final four will still rage.

Yeah but hopefully it will settle the "#3 ranked undefeated team deserved a shot at a national title" debate. I like this move. It's not going to fix everything that's wrong with college football, but it's a start.

Ladies and gentlemen please welcome to the 20th century..............COLLEGE FOOTBALL!

*Yes you read that right*

At least now the National Champion will be more deserving of the name. I'm still holding out hope that one day there will be a 6 or 8 team playoff with home games but this is a good first step. Anything more would dilute the postseason.

About time! I think within 2 years, we'll see it expanded to 8. Of course, 2 years will be 2017 since this won't start until January 2015.

They won't do it because it's the right move for competition, they'll do it because of the revenue potential. I don't care why as long as it happens.

Re: NCAA Football Approves 4 Team Playoff System

Instead of sparking a debate on the #3 and #4 ranked teams being shafted, it'll just move the debate down to the #5 and #6 teams that were shafted.

This is a huge start though.

Yeah but at the same time the debate over teams 5 and 6 getting shafted won't be nearly as intense as a 3 or 4 team crying foul. Personally I never understood that. If the rational against a playoff was teams crying about being passed over then why have a national championship to begin with?

Yeah, you describe how future complaints will be, perfectly. This is still huge. Given the nature of football, and college student's schedules, there's not much more you can do, that I can think of. I'd like to add one more week to the season, to have a final eight instead of final four. I'm not sure if that would play too much havoc with the bowl system, though.
