Well thats a disappointment. Now we lose Smoot AND get nothing in return. I was all excited about getting a Smoot jersey if we resigned him too....sigh....

Oh yeah...8.8 is ricockulous! I dare say no corner will ever get tagged from now on with type of number. Who are the top 5 in the league?

WOW. 8.8 MILLION??? Who the hell is driving that number up so high? Chump? Damn, this sucks....BIGTIME. I"m 100% focused on Peirce right now, although I've heard through some rumors that might not be going so well either.

the only ones I can think of driving up the price on the cb tag would be chump, ty law, mccalister, and either surtain or madison or both.
anyone wonder how much law is gonna be looking to get if he gets cut by the pats? especially after being out for most of last year with an injury. but as far as smoot goes, at that price he's gone, but gms and owners have shown in the past to regularly overpay for good, consistent cbs and he might actually get something close to that. it was cool having him hear, but obviously right now after all this time saying he loved this team and town and all that stuff, he's showing his true colors and they aren't burgundy and gold like we had hoped. |

Smoot is doing what the NFLPA encourages their clients to do. Unfortunately, he's gonna make the same mistake Bailey made.
Smoot could truly thrive is Williams system in '05. Oh well.....

I don't actually think he's that important. I like him and don't think he's asking for too much, but Walt Harris and Garnell Wilds showed they have some ability. I don't know that he played that much better than Springs this year. I think they'll be fine without him.

I think the Skins will be okay without Smoot...I really started liking him this season though....he really played well..played hurt! That's what Gibbs likes about his players..when they give it all they got and don't let injury hold them back...
still look at it when they won the SB in '82...the team was mostly comprised of free agents and walk ons!

How about a transition tag on Smoot? I believe that will bring the SKins some sort of compensation without having to offer as much.

Hopefully someone else will step up and be a "Gibbs' guy".

Chouns Man:
You said Smoot was going to "make the same mistake Bailey made". And what might that mistake be? He went to another team and got more money than he could get from the Redskins FO while at the same time making the playoffs with his new team instead of missing the playoffs here. Smoot along with EVERY player in the NFL prays to make that kind of "mistake".

I don't know why everyone is assuming we will lose Smoot? As if someone else is going to break the bank for him, we are not the only team in the NFL who think's Smoot is a good corner but not a franchise type corner, who is going to give Smoot the kind of signing bonus he want's? I think at the end of the day when he has a chance to feel out other team's he will come to realize that we have made him a very nice offer and DC is where he fit's in best, A lot of success can be attributed to William's and his ability to use Smoot the right way, who know's how someone else will use him? [see trotter] I think Smoot want's to be here he's just playing games right now trying to get more money out of the skin's.

That's kind of what I'm thinking, but it seems the media acts like he is gone as gone.
