Redskins hire Phillip Daniels as director of player development
Redskins hire Phillip Daniels as director of player development | ProFootballTalk
I know we're talking about this in the offseason thread, but I figured it's new thread worthy and we need more non-QB talk. |

Good to have Phil back.

Re: Redskins hire Phillip Daniels as director of player development
I'm not sure what the exact job description of "Director of Player Development" is, but I know PD has the respect of a large number of players currently on our roster, and his leadership ability is very strong.
I'm a big PD fan, and I'm glad to have him back in the organization.

Think of it as a life coach for people coming in to the NFL and going out

We need more PD types in the org. Hopefully we can keep Fletcher around too in some capacity when he's done playing.

Hopefully his first assignment is taking these guys under his wing.

Was happy when I heard about this, if anyone deserves it right now, it's him and Samuels (but he's coaching down in Alabama).
Hopefully, as said, he can get the guys on the right path, especially Davis and Williams, though I don't think it'll be much of a problem. Really like the direction the organization is headed. |

Seems like a pretty good fit for someone like PD. He is a good guy who garnered a lot of respect and had his life together.

Re: Redskins hire Phillip Daniels as director of player development
PD is a good man. I wish him well in his new job.
Good players are valuable assets for an NFL franchise. With two good players one toke each away from a year's suspension, the Skins must have felt that they needed PD to keep them and others on the straight and narrow in order to protect their assets. From another POV, it's utterly ridiculous to think that a grown man would repeatedly risk losing a career where he can earn millions of dollars in a few years just to get high. Do you mean to tell me that he actually needs somebody to tell him that it's bad risk? Apparently so. On the bright side, perhaps this hire foreshadows the signiing of Vincent Jackson in Free Agency. That would help the Skins offense and it ought to be enough to keep PD busy full-time. |

Re: Redskins hire Phillip Daniels as director of player development
I must say, kudos to the Redskins for helping retired players get the first step towards working in the NFL. McCardell had his stint as the WRs coach, I think Samuels had some type of position/internship with the Redskins, and now PD is working for us. I think it is pretty cool for the team to do that.
