Positions Which Need to Be Addressed

Regardless of how we do it (free agency or draft) the roster is weak and needs to be revamped before next year. What are the positions the Skins need to address during the offseason? (I hate talking next season so early, but I think it is a better way to analyze the situation instead of calling for blood). These are my positions of focus, in order of importance:

  1. QB
  2. OL (I guess G and RT first)
  3. CB
  4. ILB
  5. S
  6. WR (I actually think we are pretty good in terms of WR, we just need to give them some more time)

All starts with QB.

Agreed. First and foremost is QB. The rest is, in my opinion, way down the priorities list by comparison

Re: Positions Which Need to Be Addressed

As Matty says, it all starts with the QB. Honestly, the defense can stay the way it is. I feel that the team has been focusing too much on the defense. Let that side of the ball get used to each other and get completely healthy. We can pick up depth for that side, but that's about it. I don't think they are perfect, but this team HAS to focus on building the offense.

We need a franchise QB, we need to add solid depth to the offensive line, and possibly find a starting RT if Brown continues to screw up. I really don't know about the WR position. We may have some good talent in the young players we have, and hopefully improving the line and the QB could help with that unit.

Personally, I don't want to see any big time spending on the defense, it has got to stop. This team has had a lackluster offense for way too long.

QB and OL. As seen yesterday we have no depth along the OL which we need to protect who ever we get for a QB.

Re: Positions Which Need to Be Addressed

I pretty much concur with your rankings Hoo. I'm just gonna run down the list here.

QB - Please put our first round draft pick to good use Mike S., and also feel free to package up picks and move up if the guy you want is available. Priority numero uno.

RB - We're good. It doesn't matter who the back is, it matters who's blocking for him

FB - We're good.

WR - We could use an upgrade here, but definitely not as high a priority as other areas.

Offensive line -We need better depth. Also could use a new starting right tackle IMO, anybody else watch Jammal Brown get pancaked by the d-lineman yesterday? He can stay as depth if he wants

TE - We're good.

DL - JJ will be back, which helps, but I haven't seen enough good out of Cofield to want to believe he's the long term solution. Not as high a priority as others though.

Linebackers - We're fine at OLB, but we could use an upgrade next to Fletch in the middle, and we also need to start preparing for the day when Fletch is gone too.

CB - We could definitely use an upgrade here. DC if it's Wilson or Hall gone, but at least one of them needs to be replaced. I'd venture it's Hall, because they probably don't want to give up on a guy they just signed this year.

S - We have bigger problems. What happened to the Landry of the first half last year? Is it him or Haslett that has had to adjust to cover other deficiencies in the d?

K - We're good.

P - We're definitely good.

KR/PR - Banks finally broke out a little yesterday, hopefully it leads to better things next week.

Whomever is blocking for the field goal unit - get your shit together. Gano's kick could've been a little higher yesterday but kicking a field goal isn't a one man show, and so far this year we have had a lot of special teams gaffes.

Yep....QB and OL in that order.

What doesnt help us is that next years free agent crop is fairly vacant of decent OL guys.

Like I said in another post, If you get a QB and you hit on the right one, all of a sudden all those other problems are not so bad and go away.

I think the line comes first. The QB play would improve because of it but the line want get better with a different QB. But that is not to say if we could get A great QB and the situation presented itself then by all means. But again offensive lineman would also help the running game which a QB would not. I would take the Hogs over a different QB any day.

Both positions are hard to acquire but in our circumstance we should start with the line and control the line of scrimmage. We have one lineman who is above average. Trent Williams. No others and no depth. The decision is an easy one if you really want to rebuild. A new set of "Hogs" would make any QB or RB serviceable.

I agree with OL free agents not helping our cause enough. We should draft them.

Re: Positions Which Need to Be Addressed

I don't understand how any defensive position can be among the top three needs on this team. I think we could always find depth on defense, but as a unit they just need to improve on somethings. I think having a competent offense will cure any defensive ailments. As much as I've criticized the defense, they constantly have to play the short field, spend a lot time on the field, and they rarely get to play with the lead.

Re: Positions Which Need to Be Addressed

And if we go QB this year, I REALLY want one to work out for once. I don't want serviceable, I don't want a bust, I want to get someone who can be an above average starter for us for years.

Sure, that's obvious, but it's been SO long.

Re: Positions Which Need to Be Addressed

first and foremost is OL. Our starters arent all that good and we have zero depth there. 2nd is QB.
