NFL Security Investigating Gambling Links To Players

I have heard from two sources that NFL Security is looking into allegations that more than a dozen players have ties to a gambling casino where the owners are charged with bribing legislators.

And I am told that two Redskins' players are under the microscope. Expect the story to break in the next 24-48 hours.

For those wondering, it's a casino in Alabama that isn't even open anymore. And Santana Moss is one of the players being investigated.

I didn't know this was a secret story, though

Could this impact the resigning of Santana? Depending on the facts probably would think so...not the first time Santana had issues, remember the steriod probe. Damn shame.

What exactly does that mean for the player? They can easily plead no knowledge to the owners improprieties.

Re: NFL Security Investigating Gambling Links To Players

1. I never meant to imply this was a "secret story". I only meant to say that I had heard this from two people and that I had read nothing about it in the papers or on the Internet at the time.

2. The issue here is not the owners' pleading guilty to bribing legislators. Clearly the players/investors cannot be responsible for what those folks did. However, the NFL has taken a rather dim view of players who are invovled with gambling activities in the past. [Think Alex Karras and Paul Hornung...] And there is an extant NFL Rule barring players from any involvement with casinos other than being a patron.

3. One of my two "sources" gave me Santana Moss' name but the other could not/would not confirm that. So I left out that info here because I could not corroborate it. Neither source would say who is/was the "second Redskin" who drew the attention of NFL Security. [BTW, it might be a coach or a staff member and not a player because those folks are similarly limited regarding what they may do vis-a-vis gambling operations/casinos.]

Re: NFL Security Investigating Gambling Links To Players

"secret story" was probably poorly worded. All I meant was, well as you know I hear many things every week and some is not yet released or not to be released information. Other is general knowledge. I thought this was one that was general knowledge. So when you said the story was about to break I wasn't sure what you meant by that.
