A scout for the Rams pissing on a building and showing his junk to a female cop? Ahhhh, the NFL ladies and gentlemen.

I freaking love the combine. Watching live right now. Sunday is always the best when all the skill position guys workout.

Virgil Green, the TE from Nevada, is putting up Vernon Davis-esque numbers right now. Sheesh. 43 inch vert, 10ft 10inch broad jump, and says he expects to run a 4.4. And he's 250lbs. These guys are freaks.

For the life of me I don't understand why anyone would watch football players do olympic type stuff. I tune in too but after a few minutes I have to turn it. It's just too painful to watch.

Re: The 2011 NFL Combine Discussion Thread

The NFL Combine makes for great theatre. The obsession over physical testing numbers and information gathered has little relevance in determining the finished product when it comes to one's ability (or lack thereof) to play the game of football. Football players can only be judged by playing the game, coupled with their commitment and dedication both on and off the field.

Much of what I would want to know about a football player could never be revealed in the NFL setting known as the Combine. Athleticism is the only visible characteristic available.

Re: The 2011 NFL Combine Discussion Thread

The combine really is a joke. Amazing how great FOOTBALL players like Emmit Smith slip in the draft because of a less than exceptional 40 time.

I like this from your article^

"40-yard dash:

• Vital for knowing how a WR might perform when running go-routes without being covered, provided they still don’t throw him the ball.
• Extremely valuable for predicting performance for a kickoff coverage member if he’s unblocked and allowed to run in an unfettered straight line due to the ball being kicked out of the end zone for a touchback.
• Other than these two examples … this test is useless track-porn.
• The most egregious character is the fat fella who boldly goes not only shirtless but also strips down to nothing but tight compression shorts. Some misguided soul inevitably does this every year, as if putting a spoiler on a UPS truck does anything except look ridiculous. The millisecond in drag it may shave off your time seems eminently less important than unveiling an empty chasm where common sense should reside.

I really wanna go defensive in the draft, but if Von miller, Marcell Darius, Robert Quinn, and the two top corners are gone at 10 I really hope we trade back and draft Tyron Smith. I think the dude would be perfect for the zone blocking scheme, and we would have bookend tackles for years.

He weighed in at 305, hes 6' 5", has great footwork, long arms, and huge hands

Re: The 2011 NFL Combine Discussion Thread

While I'm not a Mallett supporter by any stretch, that basically came off as a "kiss Newton's ass" piece more than anything. It was almost as though the writer had an agenda. I agree Mallett would do himself a world of good being candid and contrite, did anyone really expect him to wow people with his interviews? And did anyone really expect Newton to do anything other than interview well?
Nothing has changed in my mind, pass on both.

Julio Jones is fast. Way faster than Mayock predicted (4.52).

Cam Newton is a physical specimen, jumping 10' 6". Julio Jones looking good on the gauntlet drill after a running 4.39/40.
