Skinsguy going to his first Redskins Game!
Yes, after 30+ years of being a Redskins fan, yours truly is finally getting to go to his first Redskins game. I certainly wished it was under better circumstances, but nevertheless, I'm sure it will be fun. My girlfriend got us tickets for the Redskins/Giants game on the 2nd of January. They are a Christmas/anniversary gift.
Who all will be going to the final game? What is your overall impression of going to a Redskins game?

1. If you're gonna get liquored up, do it before the game, unless you like buying 8 dollar beers. Idk if you're one of those guys that likes to act the drunken fool (in your defense it doesn't seem like it, but i don't know you personally) but if you like to drink, the average price for a beer is 8 bucks I think (don't know for certain because I don't drink at the games) 2. You might wanna eat before the game too, unless you want to spend almost 20 bucks buying a cheap burger/fries/drink. In their defense, I do like the burgers they sell at the Johnny Rockets in the stadium. 3. Don't think cheap. 4. It's probably gonna be cold as hell, so dress warmly. 5. If you got tickets in the 200 level, somewhere around either the 15th or 25th (not sure what it is) row or further back, you got what we like to call "limited view" seating, meaning there are pillars there supporting the upper deck that will block your view at occasional points in the game. You can still use them and if the game has plenty of empty seats (it might happen, simply because it's end of season, we always get our asses kicked by the giants, there's nothing left to play for, and it will be cold) you might be able to move down to get a better view as long as the ushers don't catch you and ask to see your ticket. 6. With all that negativity out of the way, going to a Skins game can be a fun time win or lose. I just went to the Tampa Bay game and even though it was cold as hell and pouring rain, me and my friends had a pretty good time just seeing the skins play. If you and your woman are having an unpleasant time due to assholes/drunk guys/whoever, there's a number you can text to to get that person removed from the game, and you can see it on the box at the top level of the stadium and they'll occasionally flash it on the scoreboards. And the HD videoboards are very nice too, be glad you weren't going in previous years because it definitely adds to the experience. Where I was sitting against Tampa Bay when the Skins were all the way on the other side of the field I practically had to rely on the video boards to know what was going on because it was hard to see from one end of the field.

Traffic around FedEX is ass. Arrive early if driving, and plan from a long trip back.

We are sitting somewhere in the 400's, around the 30-40 yard line on the "home side", upper deck. My girlfriend's D.C. friends told us exactly what you said about the 200 level seats and that the 400 level seats are actually pretty good seats. All I know is that I don't want to ever get endzone seats if I go back to a football game, because like you said, Mooby, you have to rely on the jumbo tron to see what's going on. I had that experience in Charlotte. How early do they start selling tickets for the next season?

Luckily we're both riding with her friends. I'm sure we'll probably be arriving there early. We're also staying with her friends in D.C. until the next day, so we won't be in too much of a hurry.

Re: Skinsguy going to his first Redskins Game!
Yep, go early, stay late, eat and drink during the tailgate, have fun, and don't be in a hurry. Take your time.
I went to 2 games this year. At the Packers game, we had the AAA Fan Tailgate passes, so we didn't tailgate and then hung out in the club level after the game for 2 hours until the traffic died down. At the Vikings game, we tailgated before and after. We left the parking lot around 5:45pm and it took us 5 minutes to get out onto Landover Road and over to the BW Parkway and up to the Beltway and about an hour to get back to Germantown to pick up the kids, which is normally a 30-45 minute ride.

Re: Skinsguy going to his first Redskins Game!
The first Redskins game I ever saw was in Texas Stadium(I used to live in Arlington), it was in fact the Brunell/Moss comeback win. However I got so drunk before the game that I wandered out of the stadium in the 4th quarter to avoid all the Cowboy A-holes (at least I think this was my reasoning, in my early 20's I often did unexplainable things!) and I missed one of the greatest comebacks of all time. The next day I implemented a 0 tolerance policy for me drinking at Redskins games. Two years ago when I was living in Richmond VA I saw 4 home games 100% sober and had a far better time. Now I live in Rochester NY and have to go to a bar to watch them most weekends......I swear I had a point when I started this post, I just lost it somewhere in the middle!

Also make sure you dont have a backpack or your gf and her friends dont bring big purses, the stadium security will either try to confiscate them or make you them back to the car. I had to walk my gf designer purse back to the car before the Cowboy/Skins game earlier this year, and its was not fun.

Re: Skinsguy going to his first Redskins Game!
I will be going to the game. It will be my first game in FedEx in 11 years. I just hope the Redskins stick it to the giants and end the season on a high note.

Re: Skinsguy going to his first Redskins Game!
I definitely second all of the advice above, especially mooby's advice on drinking and eating in the parking lot beforehand.
Something new I learned last time, was to basically just offer drinks/food to anyone who parks near you. EVERYONE reciprocates and it just makes it an even more fun situation.

Re: Skinsguy going to his first Redskins Game!
Just stay clear of the DTC and the thousands of other drunk fans who are incapacitated to the point where they can't follow whats going on (which obviously defeats the purpose of spending $100's of dollars to attend a game).
Personally I have more fun attending basketball, baseball, and hockey games as the arenas and stadiums are usually much more accessible. Plus the drinking culture isn't nearly as bad with those sports as it is with football. I guess the large amount of downtime on the weekend gives people the chance to build up enough liquid courage before games. Unlike the other big 3 sports which have numerous weekday games that require people to go right after work.
