Talking Heisman
Who do you think should win the Heisman this year? Should Jason White get the trophy for a second year in a row? Will Leinhart win even after a poor showing against UCLA? Will it be the first year a freshman wins the coveted award? Does anyone besides these three and Reggie Bush stand a friggin chance in hell? Discuss amonst yourselves...
My vote goes to Peterson. |

It should be Peterson, but I think Leinhart will end up with it. I am personally rooting for Reggie Bush or Adrian Peterson though. I will be pissed if wack ass Jason White wins it again, he didn't deserve the first one.

I personally think Reggie Bush should win it, but I think Leinart will take it.
Reggie Bush is such a threat, no matter where he's playing on the field. He's a monster. |

Leinart will win and that sucks but not as bad as White winning last year. If White wins this year again they should retire the award. This just struck me...college football is screwed up. The only sport that votes(!?!?) on who the champion is and their biggest award has been won by some of the most whack players ever. It'd be like letting the Chargers play the Giants 16 times and then giving the Heisman to Brees for throwing for 5000 yards even though it was against the Giants. A nice little playoff would fix a lot of what is ailing College football. Lets see what White can do when he plays a real defense mroe than once or twice a year. There's a reason he won't even get drafted.

i see there's some major jason white haters up in here.... that's funny you bash the qb who had the best stats of any heisman winning qb in college football history. 40 td's 10 int's qb rating of 168, but he didn't deserve it... do you think fitzgerald should have won the award? seeing as how pittsburgh plays nfl caliber competition like ball state, toledo, rutgers, kent state.... etc. yep, your argument holds water.

Smith is a good qb, but i don't think he gets enough pub... BUT, he did get selected as a finalist, over Ced Benson. This ought to be one of the best National Championships in a long time... I think OU's pissed about what happened to them last year and 4 of the top 5 Heisman hopefuls squaring off in one game... I'm getting goose bumps!

It had recently been working out that the QB who plays the best in games that don't matter wins the Heisman. I look for someone who can step up their game when the pressure is on. Tell me just how Jason White did that last year. Was it the loss to LSU or the 4 picks he threw in the Conference title game? Enlighten me.

I don't even know why I argue who should get the Heisman. The list of winners over the last 20 years reads like a laundry list of bad NFL players:
1984 Doug Flutie Boston College QB 1985 Bo Jackson Auburn RB 1986 Vinny Testaverde Miami (Fla) QB 1987 Tim Brown Notre Dame WR 1988 Barry Sanders Oklahoma State RB 1989 Andre Ware Houston QB 1990 Ty Detmer Brigham Young QB 1991 Desmond Howard Michigan WR 1992 Gino Torretta Miami (Fla) QB 1993 Charlie Ward Florida State QB 1994 Rashaan Salaam Colorado RB 1995 Eddie George Ohio State RB 1996 Danny Wuerffel Florida QB 1997 Charles Woodson Michigan CB 1998 Ricky Williams Texas RB 1999 Ron Dayne Wisconsin RB 2000 Chris Weinke Florida State QB 2001 Eric Crouch Nebraska QB 2002 Carson Palmer USC QB 2003 Jason White Oklahoma QB The good ones? Bo Jackson, Tim Brown, Barry Sanders, Eddie George, maybe Woodson and it depends on your opinion of Testaverde. The rest of them weren't that good. Time will tell about Palmer, but just yesterday PTI and Around the Horn were both debating about whether Jason White would even make an NFL roster. So, as good a college quarterback as he may be; he'll be an elite class with the likes of Danny Wuerffel, Eric Crouch, Chris Weinke, Charlie Ward, Gino Torretta, Ty Detmer and Andre Ware. Come to think of it, I hope he does win the Heisman, I don't want it to jinx any of the college players who actually have a future in football. |
