Dropped Passes
Does anybody have stats for TEAM dropped passes? I know there are many issues that need to be addressed on offense, but the number of dropped passes this season has struck me as . . . conspicuous. I'd love to see where we sit compared to other teams.
Ha--they're talking about dropped passes on 106.7 right now . . . EDIT: Here are the stats: Football | NFL | Team Leaders - Passes Dropped - washingtonpost.com NFC Passes Dropped 1 Detroit Lions 32 2 Philadelphia Eagles 26 3 Arizona Cardinals 26 4 St. Louis Rams 25 5 Carolina Panthers 25 6 New Orleans Saints 21 7 Seattle Seahawks 21 8 Atlanta Falcons 19 9 New York Giants 19 10 Green Bay Packers 18 11 Minnesota Vikings 18 12 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 18 13 Washington Redskins 17 14 San Francisco 49ers 14 15 Chicago Bears 13 16 Dallas Cowboys 13 Hm--looks like we actually stack up pretty well, but I guess I'd need to see a ranking adjusted to consider the number of called passing plays. There are a lot of lurking variables, but it seems like when we do get the ball over the D-line and in a catchable position, the likelihood of it actually being caught is low. Re: Dropped Passes
Moss, Cooley and Sellers being the biggest offenders, followed by Davis and Armstrong.

Re: Dropped Passes
And weak fumbles, and stupid interceptions and bad tackling.... this team did it all today.

Re: Dropped Passes
it helps if the qb can put the ball where it needs to be and d mac really isn't coming close. i'll admit i was pumped when we got him and didn't know why the eagles were willing to part ways and send him to another team in the division. just seems like andy reid knew exactly what he was doing, d mac has peaked and is on a freefall to the bottom.
that int in the endzone was one of the worst int's i have seen in a while, the safety was just sitting right in front of the fg post watching d mac and he threw it right at him and that f-ing fumble on the sack that we luckily got back was another terrible play from d mac i think it was tuck and he came right at him from his right side how the f do you not see him comin at you? there have been a lot of drops this year and it falls on d mac's shoulders as well as the receivers

Re: Dropped Passes
Well the main thing is when the drop passes occur. DM5 does mess up at times but how can you get in a rhythm when you got every one around you not coming through.
The reason DM5 was traded 2 us is because Andy Reid doesn't respect this organization and he figured DM5 would get a good paycheck. He has seen the way we run the team and he doesn't fear it and why should he.

Re: Dropped Passes
McNabb has no true #1 WR in WSH, he has a bunch of AVG players. I've been a huge Moss fan but its time for him to go. I'd like to see Davis traded for a draft pick and sign a couple of FA WRs. Draft OL again in the first RD and move from there.

Re: Dropped Passes
DM5 is ranked # 3 in the NFC, #7 in the NFL in total passing yards. What that proves to me is that we're severely lacking in the play-maker category. Plus our lack of a consistent running game is continuing to put us in 3 and long situations. As for the dropped passes, the Redskins always drop passes at critical times, especially ones that could give us the lead or a first down. With all the FA WR's next year, if we don't get at least 2 of them I'm going to be speechless.

Re: Dropped Passes
i love how everyone says we should trade players for a pick, who is going to give us anything for davis he hasn't seen the field all year and honestly hasn't been very impressive while out there. mcnabb may have average players around he but he is barely playing average himself. when they beat philly he said the o is on me and he has since said it agian, which is nice to say but you have to show it on the field

Re: Dropped Passes
If either Cooley or Davis is let go this offseason, it will be Cooley simply because he has more value as a proven Pro Bowl tight end. I think it's kind of amazing that in this era of Redskins having weak depth and weak starters across the board that we were able to stack up a Pro Bowler and a great prospect at a position like tight end.
As for dropped passes, as the stats show we're middle of the pack in terms of dropped passes. It just becomes glaringly more obvious when drops kill drives in games that we lose, like today.

Yeah--the overall number of dropped passes is average or better-than-average, but I wish we had better resolution on the data to see how many dropped passes would have resulted in first downs or touchdowns. A statistician could call the "critical drops" or something like that. It feels like we've had a lot of critical drops this season . . . |

Re: Dropped Passes
Tom Brady is having a career year in a two tight end system with a very limited running game. We on the other hand are sending out guys like Galloway and Williams to catch passes.
