Portis Officially Done for Season-Placed on IR
From the Post, among other sources (Redskins Insider - Clinton Portis headed to injured reserve)
There will be time to analyze Portis' legacy as a Redskin since he probably won't return in '11 but as for the rest of the season that puts a heavy load on Williams and Torrain plus we just promoted Davis and signed Andre Brown ('09 Giants draft pick) from the Broncos practice squad. This is going to hurt us most in pass protection/blitz pickup since he was one of the best in the game at doing so. I expect us to do more quick, short passes and screens so McNabb isn't back there as a sitting duck on a 7 step drop.

He has been one of my favorite Skins and I was really hoping he would pass riggins this year on the rushing list. If he doesn't come back next year thanks for the effort and memories!

Re: Portis Officially Done for Season-Placed on IR
He missed 5 games and we still didn't see the adjustment to fill the void in pass protection. I think he might be done as a Redskin but I kinda hope not, he still showed something even when he was out there last weekend and I don't think his career is finished.
I'm definitely going to miss his pass blocking though. He played this season like he had something to prove, and he looked pretty good in the limited time we saw. If he can come back healthy I'd give him one more season. He deserves to be the Redskins all time leading rusher and I'd at least like to see him break 10k in a Skins uniform.

I think maybe he could stay in Washington as a backup. He has major health concerns at this point. He also hits 30 in September, and has had way more injuries and carries than other RB's in the league at his age.

It's been said in other threads already by myself & others, CP could prolong his career & help the skins a lot as a 3rd down rb. I hope that's the case next year. Like some other positions on the team, the lack of investment in youth is really showing at rb. At least Allen & Shan acted quickly to get some guys in.

Re: Portis Officially Done for Season-Placed on IR
So does anyone else wonder about Shanny rushing RB's back, first Torrain for the Philly game, and then CP. I was shocked when they said CP would play and was amazed at how fast that he healed from that type injury, now he is out for the season.

Something tells me we may see a few more quick screens to Banks and Moss as pseudo running plays

Re: Portis Officially Done for Season-Placed on IR
I remember getting cp's jersey when we first traded for him. He's one of my favorite Redskins ever.. Had a very good career just age caught up to him. I doubt he ever starts again in the NFL.

Re: Portis Officially Done for Season-Placed on IR
Unfortunate, considering that even though Portis was an effective runner on Sunday, this was entirely preventable by letting him heal another three weeks. And he was a guy I think we could have really used down the stretch against the Giants.
This is still a throwing team, even without CP laying people out in the backfield. It just becomes a little bit harder.

If he is going to be a "3rd down rb", he is going to have to take a humongous pay cut - - like maybe 80% of what he's averaged over his contract to date.

Re: Portis Officially Done for Season-Placed on IR
Does "Portis" and "Take a humongous pay cut" even belong in the same sentence? :cheeky-sm I think he'll probably shop around where he can get good money and if not being a starting back, somewhere he can be a 2nd string back that'll still get a good amount of carries.
