Barrow Likely to go on IR

Well that was money well spent.

During the offseason, Barrow signed a six-year, $11.6 million contract, which included a $2.5 million bonus. Barrow, coming off a season with a career-high 177 tackles for the New York Giants, was a projected starter. The middle linebacker job then went to Antonio Pierce, who emerged from obscurity to be one of the best performers on a unit ranked No. 2 in the NFL.

Well, hindsight is always 20/20. I wouldn't mind keeping him around if he can perform. Gregg Williams seems to have pretty good scouting abilities, so I'd love to see him in the lineup next year.

Yeah, we should keep him. Cutting Barrow would cost us about a $2.2 million cap hit if we cut him before June 1st. But then again, he's going to be 42! Ray Brown is 41! I know Gibbs, Bugel & Co. are old, but it would be nice to make our team younger, not older.

According to Len Pastabelly, if we don't make roster moves in the offseason (which we surely will), the median age of our players will be the oldest in the league. I guess Brunell, Brown, Barrow, and a few others really throw off the curve.

It's going to be impossible to unload him now!

Barrow will be 35 next season. I don't really see Ray Brown coming back in anything other than a 3rd string role.

Sorry, I read the article about Ray Brown being 42 next year right after I read the article about Barrow going on IR. Just a itsy bitsy seven year mix-up.

I heard that Ray Brown signed a 3 year deal with us when he was on Monday Night Live last night. A 45 year old guard? Talking about your veterans...jeez

he may have also been partially responsible for helping peirce fit into the mlb spot which before this year he hadn't done before. I thought with him our lb group would have been monsters but I didn't expect both him and lavar to have been out as much as they have. people have talked about resting coles for the rest of the year, anyone in favor of doing the same with lavar?

Barrow should be back next year only because we really wouldn't stand to save much by cutting him.

Plus, call me crazy but I think he's still got some ball left in him, once he gets healthy that is.

He will be hungry when he gets back on the field. The LB corps will be tough once they ALL get healthy and play together a few games. The D will someday be very strong when everyone gets healthy. We know the scheme works as we see it from week to week. I am looking forward to the end of this year and certainly next as this team should start to turn the corner to greatness.

Good thing about Barrow is the signing bonus isn't terrible. I think we can cut him after June 1st, 2006 and take a small cap hit. Thank God.

Also, with Ray Brown, I'm not sure if he got a three-year contract or not, but as long as his signing bonus was low, it doesn't really matter.

Finally, I don't think we should rest any player that can suit up. These guys get played millions of dollars to be on the field, not to be coddled like girls. If they can run, no matter how much pain they experience, they should be out there.

Yeah I posed a question about Barrow in another thread, but I suppose it doesn't really make much sense to cut him...I just find it frustrating to sign somebody to such a huge contract and have them not play the entire season.

but with lavar already further injuring himself by possibly coming back too early, I know I'd rather not have the team risk their future investment in lavar by him getting back onto the field too early for a season that from here on in is pretty much determining how soon we draft next year.
