Re: DMc Is good for the Redskins.

Good Read.. I truly see this team as a playoff contender. If our line stays healthy (Brown) and we can get some fight from all 3 RB'S, this team could be a possible division winner. I think Haslett's coaching style makes our defense solid. Fat Albert seems to be in better shape, and our secondary should be better with Horton coming back. Maybe guys like Lendy Holmes and J.Tryon will become solid players also, it could happen. 9-7 or 10-6 is my honest prediction.

Re: DMc Is good for the Redskins.

DMac has never won a thing in a Skins uniform. On the other hand, Richard Bartel has never lost a game as an NFL quarterback. We would have won the Super Bowl last year if Zorn had started Bartel. Clearly Bartel should start!

What fun is football without a quarterback controversy?

Re: DMc Is good for the Redskins.

Why do we always go back to 2009 and Jim Z's bad decisions? We all know that Bartel is the second coming of Tom Brady, but good ol' Zorny blew it again. I really do think that Shanahan is going to make the same mistake. I bet he doesn't even give him a chance to really shine.

Re: DMc Is good for the Redskins.

When I think of us this year I really Keep McNabb out of my thoughts because of all the past let downs. The thing is that #5 brings a real threat, good arm, good legs, and good decisions. Campbell and M.Brunell all they did here was dog pedal trying just to stay a float while everyone else sank. #5 atleast we know he will put up a fight and get us to shore, now what we do when we get there will on the whole team. But I just cant wait its almost here.

I stopped on request of local management, GM. At some point last season I believe it became a no-no. Just respecting the house.

Thanks for the reads and comments, all. Hard for even the most hard-bitten Redskins cynics among us to not be even a little bit excited/intrigued about the possibility of watching a burgundy and gold offense forcing opposing defenses to burn a little midnight oil and drop the occasional Maalox again.

There are two schools of thought regarding the most important position in professional team sports.

Some people believe that acquisition of a Pro Bowl level quarterback is the rising tide that lifts entire NFL franchises.

The rest will believe it—if and when they see it happen to

I think there's a 3rd group that believes that a "franchise" QB can only exsist on a good team in a stable franchise.
Look at Cassel with the Chiefs vs the Pats, Cutler with the Bears vs the Bronco's etc...etc...
A QBs play is very dependent on the talent around them OL, Receivers, Coaching etc.

Imo the greater question is how soon will the Redskins have a team/franchise capable of benefiting(Superbowl) from having a QB of Donovan's caliber?
This season? Next Season? Within the next 3-4 years?

That's cool. SS and Matty run a great site, so whatever their motives were for asking you to stop, I'm sure they know what they're doing.

I do enjoy reading your perspectives. I'm oh so cautiously optimistic about the 2010 version of the Redskins. A brand new defense, a brand new coach, and a brand new QB. I don't see how it can come together right away, even if all three are upgrades. I personally see us as a competitive 8-8, 9-7 type of team. I think we'll be in the hunt for a playoff spot up until the end.

A part of me really wanted to see what Jason Campbell could have accomplished under Shanahan's tutelage.

Re: DMc Is good for the Redskins.

I think JC would have done a decent job, but DMac could take this team to the top IMO. I will following Oakland a little this year anyway because my Mother In Law is a Huge raiders fan.

Re: DMc Is good for the Redskins.

If anything, having a well-functioning offense means more attractive trade bait, like how Shanny was able to turn Tatum Bell and George Foster into Dre Bly.

I agree with this here. Like the article said: a franchise QB can make a bad team competitive, competitive team good, and good team great -- we were a bad team that hopefully just got competitive.

Re: DMc Is good for the Redskins.

I am waiting on predictions til the end of training camp. I do believe that DM instantly makes us better. With the coadhing and offensive scheme of KS and MS I beleive we have the 3 major components in place to build off of. Does it mean we will be excellent this year, no, but like the article mentioned we have a head start on our division as they have not seen this combo in action thus having no game tape. (Mentioned this in a different thread sometime back) So I do think we can jump out to a quick start, and my hope is we sustain it through out the season as teams get a good idea of what we are going to run.

interesting point if we can move the ball and keep the defence fresh we will beat dallas week 1 . remember last year we had 2 field goals just to be beaten by a last minute touchdown becuase the defence was tired

I think you are right that Shanny will make the same mistake. It's bartelism at its ugliest.
