Man do the Caps suck
Although I do like what they are doing. The rebuilding phase probably should have started a few years ago, but at least they are finally doing it. They have 3 first round picks this year, and the odds are their own will be a top 5.
Hopefully the kids they have right now can grow together and they can become a playoff team in a few years. |

I went to high school with Halpern, when I knew him he was just a little freshman trying to make the JV baseball team.
Cush, do you think Leonsis potentially has the Caps to be in really good shape to get free agents a couple of years from now? You have to figure there's going to be some sort of salary cap when the NHL returns from its inevitable lockout. So with the Caps cutting so much cost now, they'll be in prime position to compete for top notch players in a more competitive, salary-controlled market. What do you think? Check out Leonsis' post trade deadline comments: http://www.washingtoncaps.com/news/i...cont_id=234670

Someone on hockey board speculated that the Caps are acting like there won't be a 'next season'. They are betting that the NHL will ease the restrictions on who can become a free agent, leading to a record number of free agents leading into the following season. By clearing out enough salary, the Caps will have the cash to sign some veterans and mix them in with the youth.
I'm not sure if that's what the Caps are doing, but in a way it makes sense. I just hope there is a "next season" |

I emailed Leonsis a couple of months ago asking him if the Caps front office had any job openings and he told me they weren't hiring anyone because the NHL would be shutting down indefinitely so I'm guessing there's no hockey next year but I think it will be back the year after

Re: Man do the Caps suck
I actually think the Caps have been doing pretty well this year.
