What An Umpire Could Teach BP

I read this in Newsweek when I was on a layover at Miami International yesterday. I thought it was very well written, and an excellent take. I'd love to hear what you guys think.

Good read. Definitely agree that to much finger pointing is going on and less problem solving with BP.

Total class act by Joyce and Galarraga, unfortunate that those moments seem to be few and far between.

I'm gonna bump this. I'm not gonna lie, I thought this thread would generate a little more interest. I guess not. Fail.

Re: What An Umpire Could Teach BP

Just saw this today. Like GM said, well written article and the obvious point is that in one of the major low points in MLB, everything was handled with class and since this is another major low point for BP and everyone involved with the oil spill, they could probably take some lessons in class from Joyce and Galarraga.

I thought the article was kinda short though, but that's because it made an obvious point that didn't need to be spread out with more words than necessary.

.
It's actually short like that because the author, Jon Meachem, always writes the "Top of Week" article for every print edition of Newsweek. It's on the second or third page of each edition and is limited to one page. Kind of the kick off article for that week's edition.

I never used to read Newsweek, but I have been lately. They usually have good takes from both sides of the aisle (it does lean left, I know, I know) and I can read it cover to cover in less than an hour.

Actually I thought what happened was a bright spot for MLB. The call was bad but what resulted was great and shed a good light on MLB. Thats one reason why I enjoy golf because the players still have honor and play by the rules. In other pro sports they do what they can to break and get around the rules. You will never see a Baseball, football, basketball player, call a foul on them self like a golfer when no one would even know.
