should we have traded ramsey to miami?

If you guys remember, Miami was alleged to have offered us a first round pick for Ramsey back when we got Brunell. Of course there was no way to know that it would end up being the number one pick, bc Ricky had not yet retired and everyone considered them to be a borderline playoff team. At the time we turned it down, I was thrilled we didn't trade away Ramsey, cos I believed in his potential (which I still do btw). But know, that pick is looking pretty nice right? So my question is, knowing what you know now, would you have made that trade?

Conventional wisdom says definately, bc its the number one pick, but the more I think about the more I'm not so sure. Because we almost certainly would use that pick to draft a qb, and it doesn't seem like there is anyone good enough coming out to be a sure shot prospect (I'm not exactly Mel Kiper, so if anyone wants to correct me on this, I would appreciate it).

Plus, there's always the chance that you give 50 mill to a ryan leaf. At least with Ramsey, we know we have a great arm, good mind, and bright potential.

Anyway, I'm anxious to hear what you guys think....

Hindsight is always 20/20- it would have been nice to get Roethlisberger too- frankly i dont care about what could have been and concentrate on what is.

Ramsey may not be the next John Elway, but he's got enough potential to get us to the playoffs, especially with our D and running game.

I would stick with Ramsey until the end of his contract, but after that, he's gone. One thing I don't appreciate from the our QB's is that I never see them talking to the WR's to discuss the different routes. Brunell and Ramsey are standing together and Coles and company are just chillin' on the bench. But you don't see that with the QB's on winning teams like Peyton Manning, Ben Rothlisberger or Chad Pennigton. These guys are going over plays and even getting in the faces of their WR's because of their dedication to win. You know Tom Tupa can throw a ball too ya know.

I think that Gibbs' stubbornness to not play Ramsey despite Brunell's dismal performance is an indication of his lack of confidence in Ramsey's future as a starter on the team.

I distinctly remember Ramsey and Coles sitting beside each other on the bench last year.

Well, considering Gibbs selected Brunell and is keeping him in, I'm not sure how much stock to put in Gibbs' evaluation of QBs.

Well Gibbs, bad QB evaluator, is going to be here next year too. And so will Brunell.
So, what do you see changing?

I'm pretty sure that the deal was the Dolphins 1st round pick from 2004, so the 20th overall. I like Ramsey and wouldn't have traded him, but I can't shake this feeling that he's not playing because Gibbs wants to preserve the image of what Ramsey can accomplish to potential trade suitors in the offseason.

If we trade Ramsey, I would say we would get no better than a third rounder.

I agree...I think the fact that he's not starting despite Brunell's abysmal play is killing his trade value.

knowing brunell would be throwing for under 100 yards per game? hell no i wouldn't trade ramsey... i really don't know why he isn't playing now though... i've heard all the excuses, but i'm not buying it... in his limited time he threw the team's longest pass (playing time <15min, brunell - much much more) and did throw up a lot of yards and 2 TDs (if 50/50 had landed on heads instead of tails)...

i'll be looking to see what happens, but i'd really love to see him play... i really rather not go from brunell to hasslebeck or some draft rookie next year (though either would probably be an improvement) when ramsey is ready and willing... i don't think he gets traded.

Do you think that Brunnel not talking to his receivers has anything to do with them maybe not liking him? Maybe they have had enough of him and want Ramsey back and now just keep thier distance. I remember some comments early on from Coles where he expressed some dissappointment that the pass first system he signed up for was being replaced by a run first system being run by a guy with a dump off arm.

Yeah. And that was after Ramsey had one of his worst game's last year ( vs Philledalphia ), and we were talking about how nice it was not to see a WR blowing up at his QB while he was struggling.
