Blocked Punt

First off that play was awesome. 2 guys right in the kicker's face on great angles. It was basically a "perfect" blocked punt. Not to mention there was another one where Franz (I think) almost had the block but was smart enough to keep his body out of the way of the kicker to avoid the penalty. The special teams were really solid yesterday.

Anyways here's my question. I've been a Skins fan for 25 years and I can't remember them ever blocking a punt, let alone running it in for a TD. Can anyone confirm or deny?

In 1982, or maybe it was 1983, Greg Williams (no not that Gregg Williams) blocked a punt against Tampa

And back in the early 70s, 1971?, the Redskins blocked a punt in a playoff game against the 49ers. That punter....Steve Spurrier, yes the same one

Sadly, the blocked punt that most vividly sticks in my mind is that one in Super Bowl XVIII against our own Jeff Hayes

One of the local news casts (not sure which one) said it was the first time a blocked punt had been returned for a TD in 22 years

i have vague recollections of blocking punts at some point over the last 15 or so years but I have no idea when or by whom. Could be a figment too I suppose.

That's what Bill Maas said too, but I respectfully differ - thought Franz pussied out on blocking that punt. It was well within reach, and he tried to meekly put out one of his forearms to block the punt instead of throwing his body right in front - IMHO he could've done the latter without making contact with the punter.
