Is the new Redskins Front Office Gun Shy?

Like a person with a powerful weapon scared to use, is the new Front Office Gun shy? Has Bruce Allen and Shanny been overly patient or doing the right thing in the uncapped year? Discuss your view of the moves made so far or lack of...

I am trying not to come across as too much of a dick but isn't this thread just a tad bit of an overreaction?

We cut 10 guys out of the gate which doesn't seem like a "gunshy" move. We have had at least 6 guys in and signed one. We have also signed several of our own.

Plus there are still a lot of guys out there still that I think the skins are definitely interested in. I'm curious to know how larry foote's visit to washington tonight went... I'd be ecstatic if we signed him. I agree with pocketsstraight, this seems like a bit of an overreaction...

I wasn't accusing them... rather playing devils advocate and raising the discussion

Re: Is the new Redskins Front Office Gun Shy?

Someone, Schneed or CC, correct me if I am wrong, but even though this year is an uncapped year, and sure it is more likely than not that next year there will be a strike or shortened season. However, many don't realize that when this thing settles there will be a salary cap again. So why spend like there is no tomorrow when no one knows what tomorrow holds? I mean why spend all that money for one season and then almost totally explode the team to get under the cap again...

Re: Is the new Redskins Front Office Gun Shy?

I'm with you Pocket. People are totally overreacting and want the Redskins to sign every two-bit free agent available. I like this approach and the reality is we're not going to address every need in this free agency period or this draft. It just isn't going to happen.

This front office is taking a very measured, systematic, and (emotionally) detached approach to building the roster. If Jason Campbell steps up his game just a little and we add one good offensive lineman, I think the pieces are in place for a serious playoff run. You have to figure the difference in coaching alone will net us at least 3 games.

Breathe guys, breathe...

This threads different then all the other new threads(Parker/Portis combo, WR/KR) that could have been discussed in the free agency mash-up Gtripp created.

I'm sure they're expecting more cuts and maybe some better players to become available. Rosters will change before the season starts.

Re: Is the new Redskins Front Office Gun Shy?

People are spoiled when they have big incomes and would wreak every firm on the planet if they had their way. Rather than make optimal decisions and try to drive down the cost of production, they rather throw money away for inputs(labor) that won't be lasting long ANYWAY. It's like paying "brand-new" price for factory equipment that's been used for 10 years.

You know whose fans are like this most offseasons, the colts, chargers, vikings, saints, steelers, cardinals, ravens...you see a trend here.

Re: Is the new Redskins Front Office Gun Shy?

I don't think gun shy is the word. I'd say prudent is more like it. With all the tenders around the league, many of the "available" players would cost us a pretty penny in draft picks. I for one am happy with the way things are going thus far. I would have liked us to make a move for Dansby, but that's pretty much it as far as the big name FA's.

I think we're so accustomed to the same ridiculous spending season after season that we just feel weird when we act like most of the other teams around the league.

Gun shy?

Allen and Shanahan have both been around the block a few times, pretty sure they know what they are doing.

It will take a couple of years (at least) for the new regime to overhaul the roster. We fans might as well be patient, grab some snacks, and enjoy the slow ride.
