Shanahan Combine Interview on Sirius
So on my way in to work I got to here the interview on Sirius with Shanaan @ the Combine.
For the most part it had very little specific information as expected. They did ask two questions about keeping two different players and got two different responses. Redskins Insider doesn't have it up yet, but it looks like they will soon so they should have the quotes I am missing. I will update with link when they do. First he was asked about keeping Portis and Shanahan was clear about wanting to keep Portis, and made it very clear he expects him to be in shape. Second he was asked about keeping Campell, this time he was very non-committal. Shanahan's response eluded to the evaluation process and admiring how JC handles himself. He did say he looked forward to working with him but danced around wanting to keep him. If he was asked either question by itself it I would not try and look into as much as I am. But the stark difference in how he answered was interesting to say the least. I realize it doesn't mean much at this point in the year either way, just interesting that he would offer more certainty in his answer about Portis. Only time will tell, and like I said I will update with quotes/links when they become available. |

Re: Shanahan Combine Interview on Sirius
I didn't pick up on him saying he wanted to keep Portis, just that he wanted him to be fully committed to participating with the team in offseason practices

Re: Shanahan Combine Interview on Sirius
I heard the Sirius interview as well, definitely sounded like he wanted to keep Portis to me.

Re: Shanahan Combine Interview on Sirius
Maybe he really wants to keep Portis. But Shanny is likely going to say that he wants to keep everyone right now. Saying, "We don't really need him" in public is a quick way of driving down trade value. That is, if Shanny is smart he will be a good liar these days. The waiver and trade wires over the next few months will reveal what he's really saying.

Re: Shanahan Combine Interview on Sirius
I think we're going to see a lot more competition for starting jobs this year. That's a GOOD thing. I'm psyched!

Sure, if the right offer comes along they'll probably deal him.

Re: Shanahan Combine Interview on Sirius
I'm surprised that CP is still on the roster? I'll not be surprised to see Rock and Betts get cut this year and CP next year.
To not keep Campbell would be stupid.

Nice interview, very relaxed HEEEEE! KNOWS! what needs to be done. I think he learned from what mistakes he might of made in the past, bring on the 2010 season we will compete.

Depends on the situation. If someone offers a deal where we get a second round pick for Campbell then I think you take it assuming you can get the rookie QB you want, be it Clausen or Bradford.

Re: Shanahan Combine Interview on Sirius
Right now, even though I like the tone and overall message, you can tell that even when he is saying something, he's not really saying anything. It is a shame that the last few years of Skins football was so horrible that it's really dismissed. Shanahan, on Portis, you can't really look at the last few years, I know who he is from when he played for me, and if he can be in shape, then we want him here(paraphrased). On JC, well, I really admire the way he handled himself through all this situation, and he is definitely tough after all the pounding he took(paraphrased). Bottomline, the product on the field didn't really show us anything, so we will be looking closely on Mar 15th at our offseason team workouts.
In my opinion, he sounded much more positive about CP than JC when it came to the football side, but again his responses are so couched I don't think they really tell you much of anything. |
