ESPN: Clayton Expects Skins to Tender Campbell for a 1st and 3rd

ESPN's John Clayton expects the Redskins to use a first- and third-round tender on restricted free agent Jason Campbell.
In other words, Clayton doesn't believe Campbell is going anywhere this offseason. Even if the team drafts Sam Bradford at No. 4, he'd likely sit for a year and develop behind Campbell. The Redskins could opt to go with an offensive tackle in the first round instead.

Thats the only part Clayton is wrong about. Campbell would likely as for a trade if we draft Bradford . But this was expected that we are letting Campbell test out free agency.

I don't think so. I think Jason has a better idea of where he stands this year. The whole asking for a trade seem to come after Vinny and Snyder did damage control with Cutler then turned around a month later and tried to land Sanchez.

This year Shanahan has pretty much told him up front theres going to be a QB competition this year in camp. If Campbell was going to demand a trade then we probably would have heard at least some sort of rumbling.

If we draft a QB look for him to talk about it. Either way he wants to be a starter for more than a year. But its just me.....I just want us to draft a QB period knowing he'll be the future.

Well he'll be here because no one is going to give up a 1st and a 3rd for him. Hopefully this works out and he can become an upper echelon QB this season. My opinion of him as a QB is known but if he can get it fine then good if not oh well. On to the next guy.

Doesn't look like this has happened yet. I assume if we tender him that high, we will keep him as Clayton said, one year, and let Shanahan's qb of the future sit for the first year. Of course if someone meets the tender we can always use the picks!

So do you have a link on this? Or is this just speculation?

He didn't say backup QB, he said franchise QB.

Question for any CBA guru. Can we tender JC before the uncapped year kicks in and he officially becomes restricted, in other words we can't tender him until March 5th, right?

Updating the thread title because it's inaccurate

Smart move to tender him at the highest level...when it happens. They won't get a 1st and a 3rd for him but good starting point for trade negotiations

Hell if we got a 1st and 3rd for him I'd vote for Obama in 2012.

Alright alright, keep your freaking politics out of this.

Back to the subject, I was thinking that the only way I'd be on board with drafting Bradford would be if we get a first-rounder for Campbell....or MAYBE a second-rounder.

Still, if we draft Bradford without Campbell in the roster, we would probably need to find a veteran QB, and I know the there are slim pickings out there. But I wonder how would a Marc Bulger look here in Washington?

we would never get a 1st and 3rd for him, tender him for something we would get for him like a 3rd or 4th

Or perhaps Brett Favre will decide... just kidding

I'd really prefer it if campbell stayed in Washington - everyone seems to either want him out, or to just use him as a stopgap until shanny's "quarterback of the future." I know he's had his shots, but what if JC just has a monster year in 2010? Is it that implausible that he could do well in shanny's offense?

I digress...Regardless of whether he plays for one year or more, I think he's too valuable to the redskins to give up right now, especially with the dearth of veteran QBs around that you mentioned. He's the only semblance of a leader we have on this offense, and I think that's overlooked a lot.
