so everyone jokes about this, but seriously why does he get special treatment. if it was brady instead of campbell in there against the eagles then that drive would have continued, i think we all said something to that effect.

and tonight brady just threw a pass which i would think is more than obvious intentional grounding. he was outside the tackle box but the ball was easily 5 yards short of the line of scrimage. but the ref and the annoucers said he was out of the pocket and got the ball at or near the line of scrimage wtf does that mean? is this a new brady tuck rule, i'm so sick of this s what is the deal with the nfl's man crush on this guy can anyone please explain this to me

Intentional grounding of a forward pass is a foul: loss of down and 10 yards from previous spot if passer is in the field of play or loss of down at the spot of the foul if it occurs more than 10 yards behind the line or safety if passer is in his own end zone when ball is released.
Intentional grounding will be called when a passer, facing an imminent loss of yardage due to pressure from the defense, throws a forward pass without a realistic chance of completion.
Intentional grounding will not be called when a passer, while out of the pocket and facing an imminent loss of yardage, throws a pass that lands at or beyond the line of scrimmage, even if no offensive player(s) have a realistic chance to catch the ball (including if the ball lands out of bounds over the sideline or end line).

It was pretty obvious that Brady threw the pass you are talking about to no one. He threw it away and it did not reach the line of scrimmage.

Technically, that is a penalty. However, since that rule has been on the books, the way it has been called is that the ball has to "get close to" the line of scrimmage. I can never recall a time when the referees ever marked the spot at which the ball landed and then "measured" with regard to the sideline marker that indicates the line of scrimmage on a given play.

This is sort of like the way the rule is called about offensive linemen having to be on the line of scrimmage. On passing downs, some of them are almost a full yard behind the line as the ball is snapped. The officials have to think that the guy is egregiously off the line before it is called. Technically, the offensive line should be straight as an arrow; how many times - - other than a 3rd and inches situation - - does that happen?

Brady gets breaks in calls because he is on a successful team. That happens to successful teams. It's not right, but that is the way things go down. The Colts get "beneficial calls". In tonight's game, the Saints got away with a couple of holding calls on pass patterns. If that had not been the Saints back there and instead it was the St. Louis Rams, flags would have flown...

Yes, I've seen numerous hits, lunges from the knees, etc that would've been penalties against Brady not end up being penalties on other QBs, I mentioned it in the other discussion about this. Brady looks and fights for the flag though, unlike a lot of QBs.

At some point the NFL is going to have to admit biased towards Brady and/or NE in general.

Belichick is a known cheater, and possible briber....at some point he is going to be exposed..its a matter of time. One day somebody is going to come foreward about the extent of his treachery.

I wanted him to get a coaching ban after they proved he cheated a few years ago. At the very least, maybe take the Superbowl wins away, because he may have cheated to win those games too....

Meh I dunno, I saw a few hits on him last night that could have been called and weren't. Of course stars get some calls that others don't, that's not unique to the NFL though.

Belichick simply makes me sick sometimes.

Why did he take his starters out? This is a coach that is known to keep his starters in the game, throw deep when they are winning 59-0 late in the 4th quarter.

Now, when he is obviously getting his ass handed to him and embarassed and humiliated on national TV, he just quits!?!?!? :frusty:

I remember the 2007 season when he unnecessarily ran up the score in several games when the outcome was well decided.

Seems to me a lot of team remember that. And now that favor will be returned upon him several times over.

Brady is a superstar and he is going to get a lot of the calls that other teams wont. Once the Redskins become perennial contenders, our qbs and linemen will get a lot of good calls for us too.

Yeah it is pretty ironic that he doesn't hesitate to keep the peddle down when the game is in his favor, but he basically throws in the towel last night when he was the one getting spanked.

I know this is a Brady thread, but let me say I was absolutely impressed with the Saints last night. Yeah, they beat the Pats and that was no shock considering how well the Saint have played this year. But it was how they beat the Pats and the intensity they exhibited from start to finish.

The Pats receivers had alligator arms (see Daren Sharper and Jonathan Vilma) on a few receptions, Brady took some good licks, and it was overall a hard hitting game. They didn't have a let down, which would have been completely understandable considering they were playing the Pats and the Saints were undefeated.

The Saints were the better team last night and they knew it.

In keeping with the thread's title, yes, Tom Brady is the Lebron James of football. If the chains aren't moving for the Pats, the refs somehow aren't doing their job and Brady and Belichick will let them know.

What's sad is an inferior team has to play their A game when they face the Pats because they're not going to get many calls to go in their favor.

Yep, great game by the Saints last night. I was never a big Sean Payton fan, but I think I'm a fan now. Great playcalling last night...and execution.

Did anyone see that Gregg Williams D was leading the NFL in takeaways? Wasn't that what fans got on him for in DC? I guess it is the guys that play on the field afterall.
