Eagles Brian Westbrooks Leaves w/Concussion
Just saw on ESPN that he suffered another concussion during the Chargers game.
I hope he's okay, but I also hope he's not available when the Skins play them again. |

Re: Eagles Brian Westbrooks Leaves w/Concussion
How long has Westbrook been in the league? If he's been playing for a long time, if he keeps taking hits to the head like that, he might wanna consider stepping away soon, before someone Arrington-ing's him.

I think he's a ten year vet, but they're saying he's probably done for the year after having one so soon.

Re: Eagles Brian Westbrooks Leaves w/Concussion
I think 2002 was his draft year, which means he's in his 8th year. He was a 23 year old rookie though, which is old for a RB. He's now 30.
He'll be effective for two or three more years in a part time role, but part of me thinks he might be in the same boat as Samuels. A second impact head injury is serious stuff. He'll probably play again, but would certainly be forgiven if he sat out the rest of the year and then retired.

Re: Eagles Brian Westbrooks Leaves w/Concussion
Anyone else sorta think CP should be held out a bit longer? Concussions are funky and can reoccur on a "lesser" impact from what I understand. I say the staff ought to keep Portis out a couple more weeks...

For football reasons, I don't have the slightest idea why we'd want him out there, at least until the New Orleans game when his pass blocking could decide the game. But boy, the way Quentin Ganther was just leveling guys out there, that's no longer really a major concern anymore.

I think his season has to be done. 2 concussions in less than 4 weeks? That's scary stuff.

Yes, I think CP should sit longer for the reason you mentioned, as well because our running game seems to improve with Portis in street clothes.

Re: Eagles Brian Westbrooks Leaves w/Concussion
Both Portis and Westbrook are at risk for "second impact syndrome"....look up Trent Green for an example...he was supposedly feeling fine, but the risk was too great for him to return after back to back serious concussions.
Portis will probably foolishly play again too soon, but i don't know about Westbrook. I think he's had quite a few concussions over the years....may be best to retire if it's serious.

Re: Eagles Brian Westbrooks Leaves w/Concussion
I don't get why it is so hard for guys like Betts and Mason to do this. It just takes effort. CP is a beast at it and the new guy was just as good. Just go out there and blow people up. Doesn't seem that hard.

Re: Eagles Brian Westbrooks Leaves w/Concussion
I really hope with such high profile cases (Westbrook and Portis) that the league steps in and establishes some sort of rule about coming back from a concussion injury.

Westbrook needs to be shut down for the season. I was surprised he came back so quickly.

Memo to Brian Westbrook:
There is lots more to life than football. You should be set up to enjoy life based on your career earnings. Brain injuries do not enhance you ability to enjoy what else life has to offer. Do not play again this season and get yourself competent medical advice before you return to the NFL next season.
