Redskins need to sign Ricky Williams.

Ricky Williams will be an unrestricted free-agent next year. I'm sure most of you agree that he's the prototypical Redskin running back. He reminds me of George Rogers and Stephen Davis. We need a punishing running back who can wear down a defense and create his own holes when there isn't any. And I'm sure we can get him at a bargain. I really hope he's in a Redskins jersey next year.

I wouldn't be opposed to it, think I mentioned him in another thread.

Only for a year and for cheap, while our newly drafted RB gets up to speed.

So you want to hire a 32 year old recovered pothead to be RB behind our newbie offensive line?

Seriously?

Man, and I was just thinking that thewarpath had built a community that avoided obscure free agent threads.

I'm ok with Ricky Williams. Sign him. Him and Portis would be a good duo. Trade Betts for something, cause unfortunately Portis is here no matter what next season.

Fins would be crazy to let him get away. He's perfect where his is.

Skins could pay him too much though. So we're always in the running.

The CBA status is going to determine who is and is not a free agent next year.

Campbell will NOT be a free agent if the CBA doesn't get signed. Way too much other things to worry about than Ricky Williams if that happens.

*** Strike that...I pretty sure the CBA thing only effect players in the league 5 or less years.

He's 32 with little tread, and he wouldn't be our first pot smoking Running Back. Riggins smoked tons of weed

If they used Ricky as part of a Running Back platoon (which is how smart teams operate these days), he could be plenty effective. And enough already about the O line. They could re-build the entire line via the draft and free agency before next year. We don't need the greatest O line of all time to protect the QB and have an effective running game.

Re: Redskins need to sign Ricky Williams.

This is a thread out of left field, then again I guess any thread about Ricky Williams has the potential to be just that.

Not saying it's not worth discussing, but to me it's just one possibility to a bigger question: how will the team address the rb position next year? All 3 rbs are around 30, Portis is running like he's in his mid 30s & they've obviously tried to get another one in the mix; Aldridge, Mason, Ganther.

How high of a draft pick should they use if they decide to draft rb? I really like CJ Spiller from Clemson, he's a burner & a great all around player. But he looks like a 1st rounder, hard to justify this team taking a rb first, but I think Spiller would make an impact as a rookie.

Re: Redskins need to sign Ricky Williams.

As a back in a rotation RW is pretty good, but I think Miami would be crazy to let him go he's a great fit in that offense.

Re: Redskins need to sign Ricky Williams.

No way! Ricky Williams will turn 33 in May. You might get one season out of him in a backup role if you're lucky. No way anyone signs him to a 3 or 4 year deal which would carry that contract until he is 36 or 37.

Ricky has already stated that he intends to retire after his contract is up in Miami anyway.

Anyone who actively purues a 30-something tailback in free agency needs to rethink thier professional callings.
