Landry is now a bust!

His play has disappointed me since the beginning of the '08 campaign but what I saw today was appalling. I went back a watched the reel several times keying in on Landry.

First off I noticed Turner's long run (12:15 to go in the first quarter) when Landry finally forced him out of bounce. Laron didn't even try to lay the wood. He barely bumped Turner and looked like a complete coward. I think what is even more cowardly was the hit on Ryan. The ONLY time Landry tries to lay the wood is when someone is scrambling out of bounce. This is as pathetic as it is cheap and I sincerely the hope the league fines Landry at least several weeks of pay.

Moving onto the first Turner TD Landry took the worst angle I've seen all season (not just by him but by any defensive player). Whatever skill/talent he had at one time appears to be in full regression. And finally the second Turner TD Landry had a clear shot before Turner breaks into the open but he simply dove to the turf to avoid contact.

Landry's cowardice is an embarrassment not only to the Redskins but, in the larger picture, to the game of football. He should be benched for his lousy play notwithstanding, but for the cowardice he has no business wearing a uniform. For the sake of the game I hope he is benched for the year and quickly traded/cut in the off-season. Personally I don't think I'll be able to watch another game as long as he's on the field

i agree Landry hasn't panned out.... but he needs to go back to SS, and not the FS, where, a playermaker is needed, he's better in the box..... we need to get a player like Kam Chancellor in the 2nd round or that guy berry from tenn. would be great..... i give him one more year before i pulled the trigger.

LOL Landry is not a playmaker. He's the worst tackler on defense beyond Hall.

Re: Landry is now a bust!

Landry played well next to Taylor, but who wouldn't? His position is not FS. We shoulda replaced him last year and put him back at SS and adding a true game changer @ FS. As a SS his speed, pursuit and pressure was used more to his ability. I don't believe Landry is a coward. Maybe a bad tackler, but unfortunately I think he finds himself outta position and off balance in too many situations. Losing Greg Williams hurt this team more than most people know...

Yes, Landry needs to return to SS. We didn't draft him to play FS. But apparently some of our fans do.

I would say more that he is immature, lacks discipline and has a huge ego and doesn't care about anyone but himself. I would trade his ass and get some much needed picks for next year, he might have the skills but lacks the attitude to make him a winner.

Re: Landry is now a bust!

You guys realize that Landry has less then 10 games, including college, at SS right? His problems boil down to a lack of discipline. As other fans have graciously pointed out, Landry has simply regressed since 2007. It has nothing to do with the position he's playing. In fact he didn't come into his own during 07 until he took over for Taylor in the second half of the season. Since then it's been slowly downhill for Landry. The playoff game against Seattle was his peak.

SS has to be able to tackle more so than a FS. Bottom line, there's no place on any defense for a player who can't tackle regardless of position, and Landry should be taken to task by his coaches in an effort to ensure his on field conduct no longer becomes an issue.

Re: Landry is now a bust!

Disappointing? Yes.

A bust? No.

I recall Taylor having some struggles in his 3rd season as he appeared to take a step back before taking a big step forward in his final season.

I would like to see Landry become a regular at Redskins Park next offseason and show some maturity and leadership. He really needs work on his angles and tackling. Overall he just needs to become more consistent and I think that has to start with himself and his dedication to the game.

But Taylor arguably played at a Pro-Bowl level in his 1st, 2nd, and 4th seasons. Landry goes weeks without making a play. The guy is invisible. When you draft a safety in the Top 10, which is almost NEVER done, that guy must be a playmaker. Taylor was. Landry is not.

He does need to make himself more available during the offseason to demonstrate he's committed to the game. It's obvious Landry still has a little growing and learning to do, at present he's not living up to his lofty draft status.
