PFW: Redskins skin deep in chaos

Nothing really too new in this article but there were some pretty interesting comments from a 'Personnel man with intimate knowledge of the organization'.. Any thoughts on who it may have been?

ProFootballWeekly.com - Redskins skin-deep in chaos

Some quotes of note in the article:

-(Redskins owner) Dan Snyder is not the problem — he wants to win. His problem is that he has not hired capable people to evaluate and get the evaluation of talent correct. He has done a tremendous job marketing and putting money into the franchise. He has done all the things an owner can do. But the one thing he has fallen short on is hiring capable evaluators and letting them do the job. He needs a GM whose strength lies on the evaluation side, not the business side. He has all the capable people to run the business operations.

"I think a lot of people in the league would like to work for Dan Snyder. He is a great owner. But as long as Vinny (Cerrato) is there, (Cerrato) is going to smear any threat to himself."

-I'm done bagging on Cerrato. He should bag himself after he goes 6-10 again this year. I can speak from experience — when you start bringing in another set of eyes (Sherman Lewis) this early in the season, you are headed for disaster. The offense is not getting done what it should, based on their personnel. Their O-line stinks. They got all their money in underachieving skill players. They got a second-round tight end (Fred Davis) who can't get on the field because he is too dumb. They have a first-round quarterback who is just as dumb as the tight end. They can't knock anyone off the ball."

-The worst thing in the world for (Jon) Gruden is for him to pair up with that owner, at least in my opinion," said the source. "They both have the little-man complex and are both way too high-strung. It could be a match made in heaven, or it could also be a match made in hell. They will either love or hate each other — there will be no in-between. And even if they hit it off in an interview, I think it would sour fast. It's difficult for those types of personalities to coincide."

Perhaps Bobby DePaul? He would be on my short list of guys that we should look at as a potential GM if Snyder ever gets rid of Vinny first.

Re: PFW: Redskins skin deep in chaos

It should be noted that the quotes Paintrain posted didn't all come from the same person. These are three different sources talking.

It was kind of a throw away line, but they seemed to (unless I read it wrong) mention that the Bruce Allen is consulting the team ("Fueling Gruden's potential future involvement with the team is the consulting work currently being done by former Buccaneers GM Bruce Allen, who teamed up with Gruden in Tampa Bay"). I know Allen and Snyder talk often, but I never actually thought of him as necessarily consulting. But I guess he is.

If Snyder doesn't get Shanahan, Allen seems like the most seamless transition for Snyder.

This line says it all though:

"I think a lot of people in the league would like to work for Dan Snyder. He is a great owner. But as long as Vinny (Cerrato) is there, (Cerrato) is going to smear any threat to himself."

actually, considering all the articles out there that state the obvious - our skins are a mess - this one is pretty revealing in that it quotes a source that says vinny is essentially a snake to work with. Many have said that before, but don't have a quote (assuming this source is legit).

Vinny was the prime reason that Gregg Williams didn't get the HC job that most assumed would be his. If there's anything that this underachieving team needs right now, it's a heavy hand that Williams surely would have provided.

Re: PFW: Redskins skin deep in chaos

I've said it before and I'll say it again. For most of his 10 years here Snyder has been a 2 out of 3 guy. He'll sign the best players, bring in the best coaches (or at least the biggest names, see Spurrier) however when it comes to getting a quality GM or scouting department he uses the good old boy network. These days he's a 1 out of 3 with the hiring of Zorn because he liked him as a person more then GW. However after this year I expect he will at least be a 2 out of 3 guy. At the same time I'm praying that he drops Vinny and becomes a 3 out of 3 guy.

LMAO well the good thing about Davis is that you don't have to be smart to run routes and catch passes... As far as that LAME EXCUSE qb we have... well I think this article speaks for itself....

Catching passes in the NFL is not for dummies.

Just ask Rod Gardner.

It can be argued that wr and te are the hardest positions for nfl rookies to learn besides QB. There is a lot of study that goes into mastering how to breakdown coverage schemes in a matter of moments.

Never mind the blocking shemes. Fred Davis hasn't even gotten to that class yet.

We won't win another game this season. Our schedule is treacherous and our guys are completely deflated.

Yea but it's alot harder to RUN an offense than it is to catch passes.. There have been many "DUMB" wr's that have been successful, not many QB's are. And Gardner was just a LAZYAZZ..

Gardner was a flat-out dumbass. I'm still bitter that Marty didn't draft Steve Hutchinson at that spot. We could have seen the second coming of The Hogs, with a young Samuels and Hutchinson manning the left side of the OL.

man that was funny as hell. jc's head is probably spinning cause of all the offenses he's had to learn. i think snyder will do the right thing at the end of the season and cut ties w/ vinny. he owes it to the fans and he's got to be tired of all this nonsense.

Myabe Snyder will move Cerrato into another position, one with a fancy title but without any connection to the team or its draft choices.
