Thoughts going into the bye week...
So what do you want/expect to happen (if anything) before we take the field again?
Here's my wish list: *Coaching changes! Not Zorn. I think losing Zorn doesn't get us anywhere and probably just creates turmoil. I would look to bring in new coaches for the WR corp, special teams and possibly oline (controversy!!!). Thomas showed he has talent tonight but he's very raw and I have to believe there's someone better than Hixon out there to hopefully take DT, Kelly and Mitchell to the next level. Our performance on special teams is just atrocious. It makes no difference who returns kicks/punts when there's lousy blocking (ARL should never return another punt again though). Finally, the oline has just become too bad to leave that group untouched. Gruden made the comment tonight Philly has tons of oline injuries as well but they make do. And then with 4:40 to go in the game, when Zorn goes for it on 4th and goal, the oline looked like it gave up before the huddle even broke. Someone has to light a fire under this group OR WE DON'T WIN ANOTHER GAME IN '09. *Devin Thomas should be named to return kicks/punts or possibly both. He's arguably the most explosive offensive player we have and we just can't waste anymore opportunities. *Zorn must promise to never start Heyer at LT again...ever. *Give the defense a good week off to rest...the offense practices every day for minimum 8 hours (and there better be video evidence to prove it )

Re: Thoughts going into the bye week...
Get rid of ARE and Heyer, bench Rabach.
Start Williams at C, Jones at LT and give Marko Mitchell playing time. Time to see what the young guys have for next year.

Re: Thoughts going into the bye week...
If Snyder wants to make a statement, he should fire Cerrato and promote Brown as interim GM until the end of the year.
I agree with SFREDSKINS, bench ARE, Heyer, Rabach, and maybe...maybe Moss.

Re: Thoughts going into the bye week...
Can we get rid of JC? Anyway's i want to See Davis, Mitchell and Thomas start every game the rest of the yr. Although it doesn't matter because they dont have a QB to get them the damn ball. As far as the D, they will continue to fight, and anyone who watched this game tonight (hopefully not many ppl) saw that we have a Playoff type defense. Their offense had 2 plays thats it!

Re: Thoughts going into the bye week...
By the way Sherm Lewis coached Rice and Taylor as a WR coach for the 49ers in the 80's. So we already have someone who can help our receivers.

Re: Thoughts going into the bye week...
I want to see Kelly given more opportunities, whether we think that he "gets it" right now or not.
I want to see Sellers lead blocking less and Betts in that role more. Heyer has to go back to the RT spot, man does he look helpless out there. He's not the only issue either, but he looked better at RT, let Jones start LT; if Rabach can't get his shit together between blocking, protection, and snaps, put Williams in. Start giving him half of the snaps now. Don't give an extra day off because of the bye, these players get paid to play, they need to practice so that they can play worth a damn. Get Davis working with Wach and Bugel on blocking. Start designing more plays around Thomas and go ahead and see what you have in Mitchell. Take ARE off of punt returns, for good. Try out a couple of guys at KR, it's rare that Rock is a threat to take it past the 30.. that used to be a guarantee with him, now we guarantee the mid 20 yard lines. Despite his longer run tonight, we need something more. Snyder needs to start talking to his personnel guys now about possible draft picks, trades for picks if possible, etc. Hell, who knows if they'll even be here. I don't know who's overruling who in the FO but it's said that they don't listen to our scouts well. I could go on and on but I'm sure that I've duplicated points and others will make the other ones that I could have come up with. |

Speaking of Lewis I liked the play calling tonight. The execution still sucks but the calls were pretty legit. It seemed like we saw some new plays tonight?

Except for that horrible snap by Rabach.

Re: Thoughts going into the bye week...
I want to see Davis, Thomas, and Kelly (Marko too actually) become a real part of this offense. I dont mean give them a chance here and there but I wanna see them put out there on a consistent basis and THEN if it isnt working than we can come to a real conclusion on where we stand with our receivers.

I think I'll lift weights, try to quit smoking, and forget about football for awhile.

Re: Thoughts going into the bye week...
I agree with most of the statements on this thread. I thought JC would be much improved in his 2nd year of Zorn's WC offense, but he has regressed. It's not all his fault but he needs to secure the ball when he is getting sacked. JC does not have a good O-Line in front of him which means he has to make quick reads, run or throw the ball away. What bothers most about JC is his lack of emotion out on the field. He is so medium I cant tell if we were winning or losing the game. He doesnt show any fire or nor does he show any vocal leadership. It would be shocking if he would chew out a O-Lineman for getting him killed. He is just to nice of a guy to play QB for the Redskins. We will need to bring a new QB in for next season.
