Product of the denver system
At what pont is it safe to say clinton portis is a product of the denver system. he looked good in the first half but a good back is suppose to get better in the 4th.

Well, I have a question for anyone famillier with Denver's "system." Maybe it's me, but we're running this guy up the middle, every fumble has been because of that. In Denver did he rarely see head on contact in a crowded area? Seems like that's when he losses it.

Bailey and a 2nd for Portis does look like a bad deal right about now.

Sorry but this is the second game in a row were the run was completely abandoned. How come we never run a draw play? I am probably going to get nailed for spamming on this.
But there were several occasions where I thought we should have run the draw. I think the draw would have been the perfect call on that 2nd and 10 were Coles had the fumble, granted it is a gamble, but the payoff is a long run, maybe even a 6. |

well 77 you beat me to this thread, Portis is a system back, as I said when we dealt for him, he need's room to manuver, straight ahead running is going to make him the highest paid backup in the history of the NFL, in Denver he never had to deal with getting hit from both sides, with defenders standing him up in the hole and ripping at his arm's from both sides, he was usually in the open field, even if it was behind the line of scrimmage, he was put into a lot of 1 on 1 matchup's, Denver use's zone blocking, where 1 side of the line block's down while the other side pull's and pick's off the D-end and the LB's, then it's the back's job to find the hole, and explode through it, and that is what Portis is best at, If we keep running him between the tackles like we are, we will find that Bett's is a better back for that kind of runnning.

i don't believe he's a"system" back, but, we can't just abandon the run like we have. CP didn't show up in the 4th because we didn't hand it to him. instead we let brunell throw it 5 rows deep in the bleachers on every play. let's not forget that the browns COMPLETELY shut down Jamaal Lewis as well!

Did any of you guys watch the last two Denver games? Or even todays game where Champ was abused? You guys need to checkout the Denver running game stats.
Portis is good but he has been careless and lazy with the ball. All he needs is fire under his ass. |

Saden - their famed O-line coach is gone too.
All Portis needs is a man game-planning for him. He's not used to running into a crowd. He's used to getting matched up with LBs and DBs past the line of scrimmage =p STOP USING PORTIS AS A POWER BACK! |

Maybe we put out his fire by turning him into a lazy 23 year old with a 50 million dollar bank account... |

Griffin hasn't done much for the Broncos since his big first game. So if Portis was a product of the " Denver system" then can anyone explain Denver's running game recently?

ugh, i hate to say it, but i'd sooner question the playcalling at this point then Portis's heart. whats the lightest back Gibbs has ever used significantly anyway? |
