Redskin 'VETS' to catch a break this camp?

Per JLC the 4 year or more vets on the team to catch a break this season OR not?

Your thoughts on this move.

Redskins' Veterans Won't Have To Spend The Night At Camp

Posted by Aaron Wilson on July 7, 2009 10:00 PM
Washington Redskins coach Jim Zorn just made himself more popular with the team's veteran-laden roster.
According to Jason La Canfora of NFL Network, Zorn informed the team recently that players with four years or more in the league don't have to spend the night at training camp in the team dormitories.
Per the report, the Redskins' vets will be allowed to go home and remain there overnight during camp. However, they will obviously have to return on time in the morning for meetings and practice.
Zorn told La Canfora that the impetus behind the move is to try to keep the team fresher one year removed from running out of gas following a 6-2 start.
The veteran-friendly practice isn't unprecedented around the league.
Former Baltimore Ravens coach Brian Billick used to let veterans spend the night at home, but John Harbaugh abolished the practice last year when he took over.

Don't know what to make of this...although I'm sure the first time someone is late it will blow up all over the media (with Mike Florio being the first one to report).

If it helps keep the vets fresh, I'm all for it. Zorn knows what it was like as a player.

That's why the Skins folded in the second half, it's because the "vets" couldn't sleep in their own beds. And here we were arguing all spring that it was Campbells fault.

50% of the people argued that cause they don't like JC. 25% argued that it was Zorn. The other 25% argued that it was a lack of "depth" on the O-line. Maybe he's half listening to Portis....LOL. Portis would rather the vets not have to practice at all or play during preseason. You know....cause it causes injuries unlike the regular season.

We also had the earliest camp last year and five pre-season games. I hope a lot of the vets choose to stay there for camp, but I'm sure most guys will want to go home each night.

Who will be next year's Fred Davis? If it were AH it would be a huge story.

Re: Redskin 'VETS' to catch a break this camp?

With DC traffic some of these guys may be more tired from having to drive home after late meetings and get up extra early to be on time. Let's see how it works out but it should be interesting.

That being said, I think the fact that we reported a week earlier than anyone and played 5 preseason games had more to do with our team wearing out down the stretch than sleeping on a dorm bed vs. their own bed.

I think this is more a case of Zorn trying to show respect to the team vets and leaders. Last year the rookies had to "earn" their helmets, and this year he is giving the Vets a small break. I doubt it means much in terms of the end of season fatigue.

Yeah and sometimes it's the small things that go a long way.

I don't really like this. TC is for bonding as a team. Dorm life is part of that experience IMO.

I don't like it, I think they should go back to the way training camp used to be

I understand what you are saying. But let's face it, following that philosophy to its logical extent means going away for training camp, not having camp at Redskins Park. As long as camp is at Redskins Park it seems rather harmless to let the old boys go home at night.

On ESPN Marcellus Wiley said letting the old boys sleep in their own beds was a brilliant thing to do.

I don't have a problem with it, how much harm can this cause honestly?
