Malcolm Kelly yard and touchdown expectations & predictions

Sometimes i find myself thinking the attitude that Malcolm Kelly has towards his Knee leads me to believe he has doubts about his ability. I would rather see an energetic positve attitude towards the knee. All i recieve is a "there was no problem today attitude". So i wanna know what other people are expecting from our often ill wide reciever. My guess is 35 catches for 4 touchdowns. Doesn't break the pie mark but we can at least expect a good 435 yards.

What do you expect from the kid? For the past year+ he's had multiple surgeries and has barely been able to get on the field. No reason for him to come out and openly say he's gonna tear it up. Fans would be more disappointed if he talked himself up and flopped. He's smart for tempering expectations.

Well im not exactly saying Malcolm needs to start telling the media his number projections. Its his attitude in general that rubs me wrong. He could say have a James Thrash attitude. Work hard try your best. Or maybe a " im not thinking of the knee im in the playbook attitude". I'm still curious as to what people think his production will be.

Re: Malcolm Kelly yard and touchdown expectations & predictions

It's really difficult to predict productions Kelly would bring to the table because we have not seen him play.. Or at least, enough to give us some ideas.. But if I have to predict, then I probably would say 20-30 catches for high 300's yards, but his TDs number would be surprising to us, I believe.. Kelly is the tallest WR we got on the roster list (excluding Marko Mitchell), and I'm sure Zorn would want Kelly to be the WR in red zone..

As for Kelly's attitudes about injuries and such, everyone deals with it in their own ways..

I agree, this guy so far is becoming our next Tylor Jacobs so why even try and project anything when the guy himself is trying to play down expectations. So far in the preseason rags that I have seen we are put in the cellar of the NFC East again. The main reason? JC's lack of any WR threat. I think they are right in questioning our WR corp. Moss isn't going to be able to save us anymore with such a lame group making up his "posse". Hell, I rather have the "posse" of Westbrook, Connell, and Thrash than this group!!!!!!

65 receptions, 715 yds, 11 ypc avg., 9 tds, and he misses the game before the bye.

of course i could be lowballing him too

Kelly tore an ACL in junior high school and had arthroscopic knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus after his sophomore season at Oklahoma.
<grin> I definitely DO NOT want hear him to say "tear it up". Makes me cringe just hearing that.

Looking at college footage, he looked absolutely phenomenal with hands like glue. IF his knees stay patched up, he will be on highlight reels every week.

Re: Malcolm Kelly yard and touchdown expectations & predictions

This may or may not be the thread for this, but I was curious and google'd "microfracture surgery"... Sounds promising - success w/Amare Stoudamire, Kellen Winslow.. And now both Reggie Bush & Marques Colston had MF surgery this year. Anyway, for Kelly -- looks like it's working well so far!

Quote:
What Is Microfracture Surgery?
In a nutshell, Microfracture surgery is a surgical technique for cartilage repair. The procedure works by creating tiny fractures in the underlying bone in the knee, which then causes new cartilage to develop. Basically, the surgeon creates tiny fractures in the bones (using an awl) and then bone marrow and blood, which contain stem cells, seep out of the tiny fractures — This creates a blood clot and the blood clot then releases cartilage-building cells. The human body treats the microfractures (created by the surgeon) as bodily injuries, which is why the knee grows new/replacement cartilage (Read more on Micrfracture surgery).
So how common is this procedure? Well, it’s becoming more common each and every year, but more so in the NBA vs. the NFL. In October of 2005, Phoenix Suns star Amare Stoudamire became one of the highest profile players in professional sports to have Microfracture surgery. Stoudamire returned to the court in March of 2006 (6 months later), but because of stiffness in both of his knees, Stoudamire and his doctors decided to delay Stoud’s return until the start of the 2006-2007 season (roughly 6-7 months after that). So after roughly a full calendar year, Stoudamire return to the game. Did he return to his old form? The answer is yes. During that 2006-2007 NBA season, Stoud was back to his elite ways.
So you’re probably asking yourself, what about football? Are there any professional football players that have bounced back after Microfracture surgery? Unfortunately for fantasy football owners, Microfracture surgery hasn’t yet taken the NFL by storm, at least in terms of high profile skill positions. Kellen Winslow is one success story thus far. The biggest names to date to have the procedure have had the surgery this off-season, or late last season, so the success stories are to be announced.

Re: Malcolm Kelly yard and touchdown expectations & predictions

We must remember that Kelly was not healthy when we drafted him. Based on his pro day results and medical report teams were down on him so thats why his draft stock fell to the 2nd round. His rookie year was used for him to get healthy but we really tried to push to get him on the field. I think if our offense wasn't doing so poorly in the 2nd half of the season they would have placed him on IR alot sooner. I think Kelly will show the teams that passed on him when he is healthy, he will be a force. We just need him to get in the playbook and work on his route running to be ready this season. Kelly can have a Palxico Burress impact on our offense.

Re: Malcolm Kelly yard and touchdown expectations & predictions

he will lead the skins in receptions this season with around 80 catches, around 12 tds and around 11 ypc. cooley will be 2nd with around 70, moss 3rd with around 60, thomas and el both in the 40's and davis in the 30's. jason campbell will be the mvp of the league.

a man can dream, can't he.....

Re: Malcolm Kelly yard and touchdown expectations & predictions

I dunno, he seems confident enough to me. Still, hard to blame him if he has any doubts in his mind. I think even he realizes he needs to get out there and test his knee in some real game situations before he will be 100% comfortable that he is really back.

Re: Malcolm Kelly yard and touchdown expectations & predictions

Since no one really knows I'll play along.

Kelly and Thomas were brought in so we could get some tall threats for the end zone. Since last yr we averaged at least 2 TD's a game I would expect the team to average at least 1 or 2 more per game.

I would like to see 1 TD per game which I guess my number would be 16 TD's but that's kinda crazy. If your looking for a number set then I expect either Thomas or Kelly to be the one to take over the #2 WR spot so....ARE had 53 rec for 593 yrds and 4 TD's. I'll say he has 60 Rec for 600 yrds and 9 TD's but those numbers could easily be Thomas's also If we are splitting time between 3 major players....Moss, Kelly, and Thomas then I can see all three having low stats due to sharing the wealth.

In any case I just hope both Thomas and Kelly pan out and we are a scoring machine making it difficult for teams to figure out who to cover.
