Re: Our old friend Trent Green retired
Heck of a career. Still wish the ownership change didn't throw a wrench in the works in trying to retain him. Heard him on NFL Radio saying he is going into broadcasting.

Re: Our old friend Trent Green retired
Yeah, having that probably would've spared us Spurrier and a lot of other circus acts following.

Re: Our old friend Trent Green retired
I remember you saying this in another thread Matty, that this was the player you hated to see go the most. I have to agree, though Champ was my favorite. If TG had re-signed here it might've stabilized the team prior to danny taking over.

Re: Our old friend Trent Green retired
Green was a QB I always liked...even when all he did was get a few reps in the preseason. Never thought he'd end up having the career he had. Just goes to show that you don't need to tear it up your first five years in the league to have a strong NFL career

I think that you're alluding to something but I can't quite put my finger on it

I agree. Had the Skins been able to keep TG I dont think there would have been the constant flux and mess at QB the Skins have endured since he left.

Re: Our old friend Trent Green retired
You could easily add him to the "What if list" just like Atlanta and Favre. Well, maybe not quite Favre level, but it is always painful to see a guy leave and be very good for someone else.
Think about this, would Kurt Warner have emerged as the #1 QB that summer in Saint Louis, or would there have been some other free agent brought in who would have beat him out?

Re: Our old friend Trent Green retired
Trent Green probably would not get 1/3 the necessary votes for HoF induction, but, perhaps people will take a closer look at this:
Looking at the best 4 year span of each man's career: Kurt Warner [99-02] 1,079-for-1,612 (67.0%); 101 TDs/64 INTs (about 3:2); 14,043 yards (Y/A: 8.7) Trent Green [02-05] 1,303-for-2,056 (63.4%); 94 TDs/52 INTs (about 2:1); 16,334 yards (Y/A: 7.9) There's a lot of people who feel confident that Warner will pass his HoF exam in 6 or 7 years, and the numbers he put up in Stl. were totally cartoonish. I mean, Tom Brady has never bettered 8.3 Y/A, and that 8.7 Warner's average in four years as a Rams starter. But Green was right there step for step just a few years later. For Trent, he just got caught up in the QB explosion of 2002-2004 (Gannon, McNair, Manning, McNabb, Brady, Brees (the big ones), even Vick to an extent), unfortunately, and it probably cost him the necessary pro bowl recognition for HoF consideration.

Re: Our old friend Trent Green retired
Green did have an impressive 4 year stretch. I don't think most people realize just how prolific he was during that time.

Re: Our old friend Trent Green retired
Trent definitely put himself with some really nice company by posting 3 consecutive 4,000+ yard seasons, with highest total being 4,591.

Re: Our old friend Trent Green retired
Trouble is no rings (as a starter) and no major noise in the playoffs overall.

Re: Our old friend Trent Green retired
What impressed me most is that he did it without a true #1 reciever. Sure he had Tony Gonzalez, but not much talent on the outside.
